I will be replacing my brake pads soon. Right now I have run-of-the-mill junk brake pads on -- don't ask. On my previous Mustang I had Hawk brand street pads and I loved them. Now before I go and purchase another set of Hawk pads ($150.00 per set plus shipping), are there any other comparable brake pads for less money? Also what is the difference between the types of brake pads? Ceramic, semi-metallic, metallic, etc.??? I use my Stang on the street pretty hard plus I drag race on the weekends in the summer. I need brakes that stop me when I wanna stop, not make noise and not wear out in 6 months. Any help is highly appreciated.

Carbon fiber if you can find them. And get some cross drilled rotors

You might want to try some CarboTech (Bobcat compound) or Porterfield pads. They will have more bite and a larger temperature range than the Hawks. Make sure you pick the right compound. You'll need something that stops from 0 degrees up.

Guys EBC Green stuff are amazing for the street. we run them on our street cars and on our FRC Vette for track use. They are great pads because you don't have to get them warm before they bite. I just did the front and back pads on my stang and wow let me tell you it made a huge diff. Look into these. They also have reds if you are looking for a track pad but they have to be hot for them to work!!!!
