brake question.

just need info here..how much can a brake drum wear down before it is no longer effective for braking..? since..the hardware makes it keep working for along time
when in reality it may not be as effective as one thinks..

The brake drum will be effective for braking longer than it will be safe. The adjustments in the brake pads do that. At some point, however, the walls of the drum become too thin and weak. It should be cast or stamped into the drum. When you take them off and have them turned the shop should measure them for you and let you know if they can be turned safely.

they are not as thin as some as i have seen..but they have over 200000 miles on them..still some steel there
