When the engine is cold, I can't shift out of Park. I'm stepping on the brake and the brake lights comes on, the ignition is on and engine running. After a few minutes it seems to work. Any way to either fix this or disable the interlock?
I went to the Ford dealer and they sell an ignition brake interlock cable ($54) that seems to go from under the shifter to somewhere unknown, my guess the ignition switch. What does it take to remove the shifter and then the cover around it (that reads PRNDL) so I can get to this linkage underneath?
