Well the brake conversion is finally done. After a long weekend of wrenching, I now have a Mustang that stops and stops well...finally. I am pretty tired and sore (not to sound like a pu$$y) so I will keep this short and let the pictures do most of the talking.

13" rotors up front with Mach 1, PBR 2 piston calipers and 11.65" rotors in the rear with Cobra/GT calipers in the back. the wheels are '99 cobra wheels wrapped with Yokohama AVS ES100 tires. I used all new parts including new 5 lug axles, FRPP front control arms and the rest of the brake parts. The only used parts that I used was a '95 Cobra booster that I got off of Ebay for $45 and the spindles that came off of a '95 GT that I cleaned up and painted black.

We did run into a slight problem though. The FRPP proportioning valve plug that I got from Summit was wrong so we looked and looked for a substitute, but to no avail. My friend's dad suggested that we drill a screw through the stock valve cap so the head seated on the inside and fill it up will all metal 2 part epoxy. when it dried we cut off the excess screw and IT WORKED!!! It hardened like a charm and I sure I will leave it in.

Well here are the pictures of the final product and I would appreciate any questions or comments anyone has. Thanks for reading this far and enjoy the pictures!!!

Here's what it looked like with the 4 lug pony wheels:

Special thanks go out to my friends Danny S. Curt S., Jerry B. and my loving and understanding girlfriend Melissa. Ok, thats enough of the cheezy-ness

Let me know what you think!

Justin

Looks very nice, mind asking what you paid for the whole setup?

Thank you very much for the nice compliments guys!

Bentley429, off-hand I do not know. I do know that I probably should have just bought the M-2300-k kit and it might have been cheaper. I did upgrade all the hoses I could to the Maximum Motorsports/Stoptech SS brake hoses (very nice products BTW). I will try to add it all up tomorrow night and post up a final cost. I know if I utilized more "pre-owned" parts, it would have been much cheaper. I like clean and new parts so I opted to spring for the goodies with reciepts. Like I said, I will post up a final cost tomorrow. I do feel that despite the cost that it was worth every dime and i wish it was the first upgrade I ever did.

Thanks again for commenting everyone!

Wow, that car looks really really clean. With those wheels, it just sets the car off perfectly, that's exactly the brake setup i'd like to do. Really nicely done pics too, great clarity.

it looks great and here's yet another car that i'm jealous of. i've wanted to do the conversion for years but i love my pony wheels. i remember reading somewhere that they actually sold 17" pony wheels but i'm not sure if they are five lugs.

one of the things i've always disliked about my car was the fact that is braked like a pickup truck...congrats!

Thank you sodaking!!!!

www.ponyr.com has the 17" 4 or 5 lug pony wheels. I was thinking about getting them but I changed my mind because I got the '99 Cobra wheels for $95 a piece (PM me if you are interested in how I got them so cheap). Couldn't pass them up. It was either the '98 Cobra's or the '99 Cobra's.....the 99's got the nod.

Stock mustangs just don't brake quick enough for my tastes even with 73mm SVO and good (well adjusted) shoes/drums. The PBR's bite hard. I just need to screw around with the bias (front/rear) to get it set properly. I need to get an alignment too this week.

Thanks again bro!

Hey, glad everything worked out okay for you. The car looks really awesome. I think you're right about the M2300K kit being cheaper. I just worked out what I spent the other night and I think that would have been worth while... Anyway, looks good!

What length axles did you go with? It looks like SN95 length. Just curious. Looks great.

9 Duece,

you are correct, they are SN95 length. I decided to go with the 17x8 wheels so the SN95 length axles made sense and it pushed the wheels out a bit so I don't have that unsightly fender gap. Thanks!!!!!

So I drove the car today for the hell of it and it is more fun to drive....rides better (new A-arms, stops better and handles better. My alignment appointment is on Friday so I won't be driving it the rest of the week.

I love my car again!

Dont count on the pony R's ever coming out. They dont answer their phones or their emails and their website has been the same for the past year at least. I think they went under.

Hell yeah..that setup is bitching.....

did you put new a arms too?

Just my opinion...clean the undercarriage, prime it and paint it black...will make you wheels pop out as well as your nice new brake set.

Are you going to put decals on the calipers?

Thanks dude! Yeah, I put new A-arms on when I did the conversion. It just made sense to do so.

I will clean and do some painting later. I didn't paint much except for the rear caliper brackets and the spindles. I just didn't want to put that much effort into it at the time. Thanks for the suggestion and I will work on it!

As far as decals go, I am considering it. I may or may not look for decals for it. I like the fact that the calipers don't really stand out and I am worried that the "cobra" decals or running pony will detract from a clean almost stock look.

Good point. Now that you mention it, the site has not changed in a loooong time. I think you are right, they might have gone under.

17" ponies are a good idea, but they didn't seem too popular.
