Ok, I've had my 95 Cobra for about 6yrs. I've honestly never had the extra cash do much of anything to it. Unfortuately, it's been more of a curse than anything. I have been continuously repairing for the 6yrs so I never got the chance to do much aftermarket. Ok so theres my sob story, lol.

Now that I am in a position to start doing more than repairs, I need to understand more about the models. For instance, when certain articles or threads refer to fox, s95 and s197.

What years pertain to what? Please pardon my ignorance.

Fox = '79-93.
Sn95 = '94-04. Our style was used until '98, the following year they changed the body slightly giving it a sharper look but kept the same interior. (I could be wrong about what the 99-04 cars are called tho, so some1 correct me if theres a different designation for them.)
s197 = '05 and newer.

SN95's are just from 94-98, I believe the new category before s197 would be 'New Edge'.

the 99-04 is a "new edge" but still a sn95 (kinda like sn95 and fox4 for the 5.0 as to my knowledge the fox4 was not used with the 4.6 lineup), the term was used to make a diff. from the soft curve body lines on the 94-98 and the 99+ sharper edge also since the motors were PI in 99+ vs the non-PI in 96-98 it helped break that up as well.

If you want to know 94-95 model diff. look at the sticky on the top of the forums...ALOT of good info about changes in the 94-95 run.

The model S197 was released and in the press as soon as or right around the time the concept 05 came out...IIRC there was a S197 section on here about 1yr before they started making them or you could buy one.

Some of this will repeat what was already said - no offense:

Fox is the chassis platform.
Aside: I hate it when they are called Fox bodies [thought through misusage, this has become an accepted term]. They are fox chassis.
As said, 87-93's are Fox III's and 94+ SN95's are fox IV's.

SN95 refers to the body style (which is why SN95 and fox terms are mishmashed. It makes sense knowing what the fox part stands for). SN95's were around till '04.

The differentiation with the body change in '99 was simply calling them New Edges. They are still SN95's.

S197 was a completely new ball of wax. Totally.

Just to back what some have said, the 99-04 are SN-95's but they are New Edge SN-95's.

94 - 2004 is same platform, they just threw a bulky uglier body on it.
