I need advice about breaking in my new 373 gears. Does it matter how hard I drive it? I have heard drive 10 miles, let cool, drive 10 miles, let cool, for about 30 miles worth. Is this necessary? Do I need to change the oil after break in? Thanks for any and all advice.

Also as of now, I have drove about 15 miles, 2 trips about 7 1/2 miles and both times so far the housing has gotten HOT!!! Does this mean something is wrong with the install?

The warming up and cooling down helps with the wear pattern so you do not get a lot of humming. After you drive for about 30 minutes, it's best to let everything cool down for a couple of hours.

Changing the fuild is recommended because this will allow you to inspect your work after it's been on the street.

I don't think my rear ever got hot to the touch after new gears... that seems a little suspicious.

You don't break gears in. You only do the heat cycle thing if you did new bearings. If you didn't do bearings, take it for a normal drive to be sure all is well and NO noises. If all seems well go hammer it. Properly set gears will NOT whine!
