A friend had a Kenwood HU in their car that crapped out and they replaced it with an Alpine. So now I have the Kenwood and was hoping I could fix it and make some cash. It was a nice unit a couple years ago, about $300. I think its model number KDC-519.

The problem is it was one of those stealth face units, the ones where the face flips back and forth when you power on/off the car. Well the face no longer flips so the unit wont turn on. From what I was told, there is a ribbon cable in there that is probably worn out that is causing the problem that needs to be replaced.

Going through Kenwood to have it fixed is probably more of a hassle than what I want to deal with. Does anyone know where I can get one of these ribbon cables and what is involved in replacing one?

Well your right about the problem, its more of a hassle to fix. and more costly. Go out and buy yourself a new one, ive only had back luck with kinwood.
i like all the alipine, eclipse, and pioneer, have never broken one of them so i just stick with em.
Good luck

I dont need a HU so Im not going to go out and buy one, I just want to know if it I can fix it myself. I hear the ribbon is only about $15. All I need to know is where to get one and where it goes (which I could probably figure out anyway once I take it apart).

try taking it apart and count the wires in the ribbon, then go to a computer supply place and buy a length of ribbon.

Well, if its junk now and you have the time to waste, then just take it apart and see what you need. Cant hurt at this point....kenwood is such junk, I had an old kenwood HU that broke, and a pair of kenwood speakers that I was never happy with.
