Hey everyone, I am new to the board and mustangs. Decided to get into the fox body mustangs and got myself a 91 Gt with a blown transmission. I figured the thing was so cheap and parts are so plentiful both in the aftermarket and junkyard that I couldn't go wrong. Replaced the tranny, got some BBk Headers, and Ford Racing clutch. When installing the driveshaft prior to taking it on its first drive, I noticed the upper control arm mount to the body on the passenger side is destroyed, Somehow, it broke in several places and the previous owner attempted to patch it together with some crappy welding. (maybe due to the accident that happened to the fontend) So as I took my first drive, the rear end was all over the place, and to make matters worse, the used transmission I got grinds when I put it in second gear. I just can not win. :bang: Anyway, my question to you all: is there an aftermarket mounting bracket or does anyone have an idea of how to fix this. And with the tranny, does anyone think there is a simple fix, adjustment that can be made or did I buy a piece of crap tranny to go with my piece of crap car. Any help would be awesome, I may have to just screw it and buy a four cylinder and do a swap, unfortunately it sounds like the only good part of my car is the engine. Thanks for your help.

This type of work requires a skilled welder/fabricator. If there is a shop somewhat nearby that specializes in custom work on hot rods, old cars, or even better, modified Mustangs, that is where you want to take it. No kidding, many of us think nothing of traveling 200 miles to have special work done at our favorite shop.

It certainly can be repaired, and I might suggest getting the torque boxes reinforced with some additional metal plates.

Most of us don't trust others to work on our car, and would rather bleed on the car before letting some stranger look at it, so we are pretty picky about who touches it. You can comb the mags for a reputable shop or start a thread titled "Any good shops in (your location)?".

Sorry you seemed to have picked up someone elses problem, but these things can be repaired. It's frustrating, though. :bang:

i agree. if you got the car really cheap, you can't complain too much right? just about anything can be fixed. just think, once you get the bugs ironed out, you'll be happy. may just take a little time.

You just don't know how weird this is. I have the same problem and I was gonna get it fixed. I went and brought the UPR Upper torque box kit to help strenghten it too. A few months ago I decided to go with the MM torque arm set up, meaning I won't even need upper control arms anymore. Finally I looked in my closet and remembered I still had the UPR stuff so I put it on Ebay last night.
