Tell me if this is a decent plan....found it on a local site, and might try it

This is the easiest and cheapest stroker motor one can build IMHO. 383 Chev's BAH! you have to machine the block. Stroker small block Mopars? does anyone even bother? Here's a real world motor that even an AMC lover could put together.
Find ,if you dont already have one, a 351 Windsor engine. Running preferred but the bottom end must be complete. If it dos'nt need an over bore thats better.
94-96 351's are preferred because they are roller cam motors, at least use 81 and up because they have one piece rear main seals
Now call you favorite part dealer and order a Scat nodular steel 3.85 stroke crank for a stock 351W with 3 inch mains and 2.311 rod journals.
If the engine does not need and overbore, find some used factory 87-92 302 high output pistons. You want them because they are forged. You use a 302 piston because of the shorter compression height.
Machine shops might have some lying around from rebuilds. If it needs an over bore just get whatever size 302 piston you need.
Dont forget to get rings as well.
Now take your new crank, what ever flywheel/flexplate and harmonic damper you are going to use and get it balanced.
Get your factory forged steel rods resized (its cheap insurance) and if its in the buget get ARP rod bolts.
Buy new stock size main and rod bearings.
Have your pistons put on to the rods.
Put your rings on your pistons.
Assemble.
Dont forget any other little things like oil pump, gaskets, oil pan, things like that.
So for the cost of the original block(I had one given to me but you could buy one from $50 to $600 depending on condition),
the crank($400),
pistons(anywhere from free to $1200 depending on what you get but for a bugets sake I'll say $250 for good used 302 pistons),
Resizing rods and balancing($350)
Bearings($150)
So if you assemble it yourself your looking at around $1100 bucks.
Obviously theres more things nessary like heads, intake and all that so dont be a smart ass.(you know who you are .)
Now take in the fact that Fords cost more than Chevs to build(for now) and thats not bad for a 393 cubic inch small block.

Understand what you're saying, Keven, but I'm just wondering what kind of horsepower you could gain out of a 351 block, and it's a different idea...might just make some good power

Hmmm for 800 US dollars even with a 302 head that would still make some good power. Its good thinking but if im going to do all that work I would spend a little more for NEW(not 15 year old production) pistons, and have a basically new engine that will withhold much more abuse. $800 isnt that bad though....

Its actually a really populer stroker kit. I dont see it mentioned but it would be a 393. The only thing i dont like is that if you stroke it, unless you have other plans, you will want to just go all out the first time. I wouldnt want to have to go back into it to put quality parts in IMO. So then if u do that, u start asking, well why not a 408? Why not a 418? lol you get the point.

In my case, i already had a hood and heads. Plus a junk 302 shortblock so either way i needed a block. The 351 isnt half as bad as it seems depending on where you start from. The dizzys can be had for cheap. I might be selling my oil pan in favor of a 7qt one. You can always find deals around.

IMO, it depends on where you want to go with the car. The 351 will be able to handle more power on the stock block than a 302. I just view the 351 as being a very strong foundation to build on. A 302 block...you can stroke it to a 347 and put a decent blower on it and you will probably be walking on egg shells for the safety of the block. With the 351 you have a little bit more "room" to play with.

Oh yea and im selling my headers :nice: lol. See?! There are always deals out there you can find to make it cheaper. The best thing you can do is get it down to 2 or 3 options and write EVERYTHING from beginning to end on what you need including every nut and bolt and gasket. Then compare costs with benefits.

And im no so sure about not clearing the stock hood....with drop mounts and the right intake...it might be close. Search around to see for sure. Anything is possible.

He said a 3.85 crank witch is for a 393. You can use that crank the stock rods and 302 pistons to make it. I know kb make a hyper piston that work well and are dished but I think I remember the stock 302's have a higher cr due to thw dish not being that much.

This is from what I can remember but i'm not 100% sure.
