I am using a 1990 5.0 I would really like to clean up the engine compartment can I get rid of the EGR without any negative effects. I dont care if I loose a mpg or two but I want it ro run properly!!!!!
I was looking at buying the off road lower gt40 intake off ebay what do you think??
Is there anything else I can get rid of off the engine??
Thanks.

If retaining EFI, you might find a part-throttle lean condition/pinging due to the inert gasses not being introduced, though the puter thinks they are (when EGR is functional, timing-advance increases and injector-pulsewidth dials back).

Turning off the EGR function inside the computer is the best way to go, though you might get lucky.

Good luck.

I had the same original thought as Willys about it being a Cobra kit. If so, I really dont know how tight the hood line is - if the intake wont fit, dont forget about using the intake from a 94-95 5.0L since they have a lower profile.

hood line is fine me and my dad are finishing up his there is alot of room... higher than a stock hood on a mustang the motor sits a bit lower on the car.... if you ask me a kit cobra is the single best mod you can do to your car

I have to ask (I have pondered doing a kit), what is the draw to run an EFI set-up on a car like that? I would use a carb for period-sake, as well as a cleaner engine bay. Just wondering.

As crazy as this sounds I installed a TBI on a Torker intake for a Cobra (Fastory Five)so that the customer could use the Shelby Air Cleaner Assy. but yet being EFI gave all the benefits of easy starts and better fuel mileage. Removing the EGR can cause throttle response to be slower at low to mid power band. If you use a tuner(PMS,Tweecer) you can remove that problem or you could luck out and not have the problem. The computer you choose makes the difference because some models have a leaner range to pass emissions for that year. If you can find or have the A9L that problem removing the EGR or emission equipment seems not to cause driving issues.

Dont take this the wrong way,I respect people who make those kit cars and do it the way they want too,,,but why put a 5.0 in there? How much HP are you looking to have?
