I'm new here, I don't have a mustang but I have a 5.0 and I am looking for help on it. I bought a 97 5.0 out of an explorer with 40,000 miles. Has the GT40P heads which was real nice. Got working on it and installed the following parts on it.
-Comp Cams double roller timing set
-Ford F303 cam
-New Ford lifters
Has full tube headers, electronic ignition, and it has a carb on it. I have no idea what brand intake it is, all i know is that it's a dual plane aluminum one. The carb says edelbrock and that is all I know about it. I also have a 4 hole 1 inch spacer under that. I have been running it on and off and realized it was a bad idea to put an F303 in. The 5.0 is in a 72 Ford van, has 370 rear gears and a c4 trans with stock converter. The exhaust is pretty bad on it, and runs really rich and tested at 6800 HC's for inspection. For some reason the rocker arms are all clicking. I have pulled them off, and put them back on with no luck. they are the pedestal type. I need help with getting this engine tuned and running good. What should I do for timing, I need help identfying the carb and what to adjust it at, what should the idle be and am I better off with a 3 speed manual or the c4? I hear all these 5.0's with the F cam and it is really lopey, mine does not sound lopey at all, pretty similar to my 89 HO did. What should I do for better take off? Burnouts are hard also, the tires just slowly spin and I have to play with the gas to do something. Everytime I put it in gear the engine also dies, I need to hold my foot on the gas to keep it running while in gear at lights. Idle comes back while in neutral or park.

Thanks

I found out I have a 600 cfm, so that's out of the way. This weekend I am gonna drop the trans pan, change fluid to trick shift and change filter. I also plan on pulling the valve covers and working on my ticking rockers issue.
