Bullit rear brakes install question

I just ordered the front and rear replacement caliper sets from the bullitt for my 01 GT. According to ford racing u have to purchase a rear brake bracket kit m-2300-m. Since both gt's and bullits use the same part # brake pad and rotor do you really need this kit. it's not cheap and it's telling u that the axles have to be pulled to put the whole kit together. I've had a 95 Cobra, 96 Gt, 04 Mach 1 and this 01 GT and don't remember anything being different about the rear brakes. Anyone who may have done the changeover's help would really be appreciated.

Yes, you need the kit. There is no way around it.

The rear rotors aren't the same from Bullitt/Mach1/Cobra to GT, it's 1" larger. You therefore need the kit which spaces out the caliper and allows the larger rotor to be used.

what if you just use the factory gt rotor. Rotor may be different but the pads are same and caliper seems the same

Why even buy the new caliper then? Just paint yours red.

You are essentially buying the kit for the upgraded rotor in the rear. To use the rotor, you need the kit to mount the caliper.

If you want to use the stock rotor, return the new caliper and paint yours red or w/e.

Calipers are *almost* the same. Other than the obvious being painted red, the Bullitt calipers have a larger slot cut in the caliper bracket for the thicker rotor.

There are rotor diameter differences between the bullitt and a normal GT. In the rear, the Bullitt uses a 11.65" VENTED rotor with the special red calipers. The pads are GT pads shaved down slightly for the thicker rotor. The normal GT uses a puny 1/2" thick SOLID rotor that is 10.5" in diameter. The Bullitts brakes are identical to the brakes of the Cobra and Mach 1. If you owned a Mach 1 you should have noticed that the rear brakes are larger as well as the front.

You can run the bullitt calipers with no problems in the rear with your stock diameter GT stuff...but you could have just painted your calipers red and you'd have basically the same thing.

The M2300-M kit is only $175, and yes you have to pull the axles.

Thanks for your info. First off the reason I said they appeared the same was because the only time I ever have had to change out my rear brake pads was on my Cobra. I found out that the pads were the same part number. Yes I did run into the issue of the pad being too thick to seat in with the rotor and just asssumed that the brake pad brand I had bought just had poor quality tolerances. I went with a different brand and they fit fine. Seeing that the Cobra had vented brakes I assumed all SN95's were vented. This is the first Mustang that I've ever planned brake and suspension mods so my questions may seem silly.

the only major difference is the caliper bracket, moan braces, and rotor.

Pulling the axles takes only a few minutes once you've got the brakes removed.

Having first bought and installed the fronts on my car, then a month later installed the rears, believe me, you'll be glad when you upgrade to the larger rotors in the rear. It's more work and more money, but it's well worth it.

i just had the front and rear bullitt brake kit installed, 13" front rotors cross drilled and slotted. WOW! what a difference compared to LES Schwab brakes;( all together parts and labor i was about 1200$ maybe a little under.

Why is it well worth it? Did you notice a big difference when you did the rears? I've been contemplating doing the rears myself (got the fronts already) but I can only see this as a cosmetic mod since the fronts do most of the braking anyway.

There's a difference, but I wouldn't say it's a "big" difference. The rears only do about 20% of the braking anyway.

It really is more cosmetic than functional, but it does help in the end.

With the front 13" brakes and the rear brakes the stock GT-sized 10.5" brakes...you do notice a hell of a lot of brake dive with the setup.

I know the front does a lot of the braking, but you are leaving a lot on the table with the puny GT rear setup. Adding the 11.65" kit may be a PITA, but it offers a more balanced brake setup
