Buying 99 Stang GT?

Hi, Im new here and I currently dont have a car and have finally saved up enough cash to get a decently good running car. I've got almost 9000 and that will have to pay for the tax also.

Im looking to get a 99 or up Mustang GT 5spd.

What are some common problems with the 99 and 2000 model? Cause thats most likely the years I'll end up with cause of my spending limit.

Hows your in the city MPG?

Any recalls?

Squeaky throwout bearing is the only thing I really notice is consistent.

City is 24ish.

Probably a lot of recalls.

who cares about mpg, it's a v8.

MPG isn't bad compared to an SUV or truck. You will get 18-20 city and 24-28 highway. Now, that is if you drive it like your grandma.

My throw-out bearing has squeaked in the summer almost since I've had my '99. It now has 100k and no problems. Slightly annoying, but probably better than Ford trying to fix it.

Just change the oil regularly and she is good to go.

I get on mine all the time and get 23-24 consistently in the city. 3.73 gears too.

how in the hell do you get 23-24 city i am very lucky if i get 18. I have an auto which is a little worse in mpg but not 5 -6 mpg plus i don't have 3.73s. I am lucky to do that well on the highway.

Typically I'm getting 16-17 MPG with 3.73s - all "in town - city" miles with the A/C on. But poor mileage really doesn't bother me - I'd love to get 25MPG, but I have no regrets, no complaints and smile every time I fill 'er up.
There is not much different between the 99-04 GTs. The motor is (essentially) the same, the trannie changed mid 01 (from the T-45 to the TR-3650), the spoiler, hood and side scoops changed from 99-00 to 01-04. The differences among these years is minor, so your main decision is the quality of the particuliar car you are looking at.

I get about 18 city. But that was with the stock 3.27s. I just put in 4.10s.
But people at work kid me that this is my economy car, cause my truck gets
15. Both are V8s, and both are sticks.

dont let ford change your throwout bearing if you
have longtube headers. they charge about $1400.00 labor because
they cant get the tranny out without taking the headers off.

You are getting honda like gas mileage. I'm glad, but I don't know how you do it in the city. Maybe if by "city" you have alot of cruising in there and not stop and go.

Buy the car and you'll have fun, and maybe get a few more chicks. So who cares about gas mileage. If you want gas mileage, bye a honda , but I repeat, bye the car. Remember......more chicks.

No kiddin. My car is bone stock and i'm lucky if i get 15MPG in the city...and that's driving somewhat conservatively.

On the highway i can get it up to 24-25MPH.

SOme guys here claim 24 city and 30 highway. How the hell do you do that? That's even better than Ford's ratings on the car.

I drive mostly all hwy at an average of 75 to 80 mph on stock gears with mild mods (in sig) and get around 24 to 26 mpg. I'm in the midwest as far as elevation goes, but the drive is flat. The only thing I can think of that takes away from mileage is how hard the wind blows. Chicago isn't the only windy city...

with about 60% city driving and 40% highway iget about 19 and with 60% highway and 40% city i get around 21. I cruise about 80 on the highway and don't hesitate to downshift. I am not complaing just letting u know. My dad had my car for a week and drives about 65 on the highway and he got i think 2 or 29 mpg, all highway.

I drive only in the city anymore, I drive about 5 miles to and from everyday and there are 5 stoplights and 1 4-way stop sign and I get about 20.4 mpg
