Buying a 5.0 mustang. 351w? Have $3k. Few questions....

You guys are smoking dope. The 5.0 has had forged pistons AND FORGED RODS all the way back to the early 4 eye days. I don't remember the exact year it started but it was at least 82 when the 5.0 was re-released.

Both the 85 and 86 are slower in stock form than the 87 and newer cars, but they are both just as good candidates for modding. Keep in mind the 86 does not have valve notches, which makes swapping heads trickier.

Crap you're right i dunno why i said non forged rods, musta been thinking of the mod engines

Thats a very nice looking car and its worth the asking price. If the forged parts are a problem. Buy a 87-92 5.0 roller engine and freshen it up and then you will know exactly what you have. The engine in the car maybe a newer one anyhow, you never know for certian whats in the engine unless you know the person who put it together.

Whoever told you the older engines don't have forged guts needs his car guy card revoked. Seriously, the older engines ARE forged, and will support every bit as much power as the later engines.

That 85 sounds like a good deal! Let us know if you pick it up.

Im going to go look at it, and if its nice and doesnt need much if anything.... offer $3k cash and see what happens. Try and work out a deal.

Think a good driver, and radials, that car could crack a 12.99 on all motor? I dont know how many miles are on the motor.... but heard they last awhile. Should I walk away if it has close to 200k miles?

One thing is parts are cheap. So not worried about the little stuff. Maybe I will do a compression test on it too.

My 93 gt had 225.000 miles on it and ran great! Dont worry about the miles. If it drives good and looks good its worth it. My 87 coupe I own has 145k on it and it runs top notch.

Here is a picture of the motor. Looks clean to me....
