If you can afford a 99+ GT, buy one. The 99+ came with 260HP versus 225.

Well, I have a 96 GT that I bought 2 1/2 years ago and have been pouring money into it ever since...the body and interior was in good shape, but the previous owner had dogged the suspension to death...The motor now has over 169,000 miles on it and it is still strong. I actually love the car and have had several people try to buy it from me since I moved to Maui, Hawaii and had the car shipped here from Texas. Guess I'm going to have to put a "NOT for Sale" sign on it. Just check the car out, get a carfax check on it, that will let you know if it has been in any major accidents or anything like that. Overall, the 96-98 are notoriously low on horsepower, but they are still fun cars...

The biggest drawback is the weaker engine...can be overcome with a little work. Does the car have any mods now or is it stock? How many miles?

Mt car has rolled over 160K+ miles with nearly 75 runs at the track. Only major problems were the cracked upper intake manifold, bad pinion bearing (that was bad when I bought the car with 46K on it) and the throw-out bearing. Every other penny I've spent has been upgrades. All told I hav about 2000 in it including repairs.

Don't be fooled by those telling you you have to do a headswap for power. There are alternatives that are less expensive and time consuming.

<<<<Check My Garage for mods on mine...

I own a 96 GT and I love it alot.I never had one problem with mine.
I just keep up on the general things like oil changes, fuel filter changes,
tune ups etc. and my car runs fine.I know the intake manifolds are known
to crack.I don't see why people dislike the NPI cylinder heads because
they can be worked on to flow better than ported PI cylinder heads.
I honestly like the power of my car and always will. Also you can just do
PI cams and intake and be just as fast as the 99-04 GT's if you can drive.
I ran a 14.7 in the 1/4 mile with just a few bolt ons! :nice:
Congrats on your new car.

It wasn't the heads that made yours special, it was the "T" fitting.

....besides.....as it sits, your old GT is currently faster than your totally "immobile" Cobra. :D

His Cobra is being punished for not getting parts from SHM, he chose to cheap out :D .
