Buying a Supercharger, had a couple ?s

Hey guys, Im a newbie here and just had a couple questions...
Im looking at purchasing a kenne bell supercharger for my car (2001 GT) Im not taking my car to the track, I just want to have a little more fun with my car, and besides its something nobody else has done to there stang around here. So far I have minor bolt-ons: magnaflo exhaust, shift kit, predator tuner... a few ohter things, its lowered and has alot done to the suspension.

Anyway, I didnt mean to stray off and start talking about my car, I was just wondering if I would have any clearance issues with my stock hood. Also I have a strut brace, will that have to be off to fit a supercharger?

you'll be fine as long as you dont get a 2.6 or larger

yea stay to either the 1.7 or 2.1 and you won't have any clearance issues

Are you gonna go the intercooled or non-intercooled route?

I've read that you need a strut brace for an 03/04 Cobra if you are going the KB route. Dude named Ken03VertGT or something like that on MPH's and ModularFord's forums put one on his GT with the smaller KB and it needed a little modification. Look for him over there, he has a thread about it on MPH's forums.

Thanks, I was hoping it would still fit with the supercharger, I wont mind doin a little modification to make it fit... Ill definately check it out

Not to sound like a jerk or anything, but why drop 5K on a supercharger for a car you're not going to race? I guess it's just me, but dropping that kind of cash for something to have alittle more fun of a driving experience doesn't seem worth it. But hey, a KB is definately cool and hope everything goes well.

Alot of people with highly modded cars don't play at the track...

Why do people buy Vipers or Vettes or even higher end Euro-Sports cars and not take them to the 1/4 or twisties?

Lol, alot of people ask me that, I ride a race ready supersport bike also, all my friends take their bikes to the track and I love to go watch, but at the end of the day, I would rather be tearing around the lake in town with my friends... I just want something a little different than what everyone else has done in town. Yes I would rather just buy a newer faster car, but being under 21 insurance is a killer already, and I would rather spend the $ making my current car just a little quicker.
I race a couple of my friends with camaros in my car on a 1/4 mile chunk of road we go to, just to see how my car does in comparison... but only people who I know wont go bragging or talking smack in town. So yes I enjoy racing, but I dont brag about my car because I know its not that fast, and when you start racing in my small town everyone wants a piece...

BTW: for those wondering, I have not lost to either of the cam's I raced (a modified 96, and a 99 with mild bolt ons)

Well you tried not to sound like one, but...
My 04 GT has a P1SC-2, 386 rwhp.
And then I should also get rid of this pictured below amongst my stable...
2001 Carrera 4 with an original 11,000 miles.

Before you go and buy the Cobra STB note that your stock hood will not clear it. If you want to use the Cobra STB you'll need to get a Cobra hood or aftermarket hood that will clear it. I remember reading somewhere that MaximumMotorsports was looking at possibly making a STB that would fit the KB 2.1L with the stock GT hood but I haven't seen it on their site yet.

I'm sorry, I guess I just feel like you should use a car for what it's meant to do. But whatever, I don't care if I had a Viper, Lambo, Ferrari, Aston Martin whatever you want I'd still take it to the track atleast everyone once in awhile.

I was basically just saying it's kinda odd how someone would want to buy the most expensive supercharger and not ever race the darn thing on a track. I just think there are cheaper alternatives for someone that's not going to a track. But I guess it's just one of the arguments that can go any way you look at them.

Here is the problem. If someone wants more power than stock than they can buy simple bolt ons. If someone wants a little more power than that, they can buy gears and cams. But if someone wants more power than that, than they have three options, FI, Nitrious, or a completely built na motor. If you want streetable power all the time than FI is the way to go. Now you have two basic styles, centri or roots/screw (yes they are not the same but close enough). Well if you go roots/screw which is a great street choice especially if you like down low power you don't a choice. KB, Allen, Roush, Saleen. Unfortunately, Ford dropped the ball and didn't finish their sc for the 99-04's without the customer doing some fabrication himself. So a person is stuck with paying a lot more than he should have to just to get a little more power. Basically, the 99-04's got screwed. If someone is looking for 350rwhp, than you have to go FI or a really hot na motor.
I think most people would be surprised how few people go to the track with their modified cars.
