So I'm going to buy a new S281 SC coupe.

Sticker is $54k. What is a reasonable sales price?

Thanks for the input.

That's just outrageous.

I predict that, during my lifetime, a Mustang will soon cost $100K and the parts will still be made of plastic.

Thanks for the input 06SaleenX. Other car purchases have all been around 10-15% below msrp so that sounds right in line (12%).

ag, thanks for the words of encouragement. Base sticker is under 20k for a Mustang. I think your fears are overblown.

Very true Leave those for the teenage girls.

By the way the 100k mustang is available. Saleen S281 E convertible with rainbow paint fully loaded comes out to $102,412. Since you aren't dead yet your prophecy is already fulfilled.

............two words: Holy *hit

of course, the street version SR 351 was well over $100k back in the 90's. Just food for thought

I don't care if they plate the whole damn thing in 24K gold, I could never justify 100K for a Mustang. Don't get me wrong, I bleed blue, but that is just friggin rediculous!! It is a Mustang for heavens sake...

So here's my day's experience.

Went to 2 dealers. One was a dealer I had not visited prior. They were asking a $4,000 premium on top of the $56,700 price tag. They almost laughed me out of the showroom when I mentioned the price I wanted to pay. They relented a bit and admitted I could drive off with it at MSRP. I left.

Second dealer I went to was the one I test drove a car on Saturday at. Turns out they are only willing to discount $3k off MSRP on a Windveil Blue model.

Under certain light the Windveil Blue looks ok to me. Other light it looks kind of off. The same problem plagues the Tungsten Gray. That color looks amazing in the shade but get it in the light and it goes dull gray with a tint of purple in the reflection.

I'm thinking silver may be the way to go but of course no deal. Time to wait this one out a bit and test the waters once again when the 2007 models are starting to show up.

Pretty shocked they are sticking to MSRP.

....I wonder what the owners of a 65 R model shelby would say to that comment. Last one that sold was in pieces in total need of restoration and it sold for more then my house. Oh yeah, I bought my house for $640K!!! Again, just food for thought.....

It's amazing what the market is like right now, I have a friend who had a 67 fastback, avg car, nothing significant about it, hadnt driven it in 20 years, doesnt run. The body was straight, so he loads it on a trailer last week and parks it by a local car show with a for sale sign. Guess how much he got for it? 12K!! All I have to say is WOW! The guys that bought it are restoring it for a customer... I can only guess how much the customer is going to pay for the final car.

Like we always say here, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it! Fact is, I'm sure that is not the guys first 3/4 million he's spent. It's a matter of perspective. When you are a multi-millionare, what is a few hundred thosand to you? Conversely, if you make 6 figures, a 6 figure car is a years income to you. If anyone has stupid money and wants to give a bunch to me, we'll see if my opinion changes...

So back to 2006 Saleen SCs.

Third, and final dealer for now, will discount $1k off a vista blue.

Time to wait for the 2007's and see how Saleen and the dealers feel about moving 2006 inventory.

Ford views Saleen as the dealer in terms of financing the cars in their inventory (from what I'm told). The Ford dealerships where these are sitting don't have much wiggle room as a result plus every dealer keeps quoting high demand.

Thanks for that!

I've been dealing with Rancho, Villa, Sunset, and Fritts as a matter of fact. Finally have some quotes below MSRP that I'm happy with (took a while) and think I'm heading back to Rancho for a final round. I really would like to deal with Rancho since I live just a couple miles away.

I don't mind thread hijacks. Discussing stangs is all good all the time

.....I'm assuming that Tom was the gentlemen that took care of you. I'm glad to hear you had a positive experience. Now, bring that damn boy out to a show or two...Exactly where are you located?? I'm about 45 seconds away from Villa Ford. Sounds like your not to far away from me.....
