Bypassing amp ?'s

O.k. so I've been told to bypass my factory amp because there is only sound coming from my subs and not my speakers. Here is my problem: the girl who had the car before me had her stereo butchered and they cut off the harnesses into the headunit(now there's just wires). So I spliced my head unit into the wires that were there. But how would I bypass now. Can I wire the harnesses from the factory amp into my HU? It looks like the speaker harness has all the same wires but the power harness has a few extra. Ughh...confusing...please help

why dont you just use the power, ground, turn-on, etc. wires from the factory harness, and run your own speaker wires?

wouldn't it be the same if I used the factory speaker wires....since they are already run throughout the car and then the power, ground, acc? I mean in theory it should work right?

what year is your car? I took the factory amp out on my 92 gt and i believe if u follow the wires for the factory radio to the amp then follow the wires coming out of the amp u'll find a new set of harness's. Unplug them and that set should plug right into to a store bought harness for aftermarket radio.

Factory vehicle wiring is not that great of quaility. To get the most out of your system run your own speaker wires to each and every speaker even if you don't have amps. Run the speaker wire directly off the head unit to the speakers with no splices but the initial one at the head unit. For every splice you can lose as much as 10% of total wattage to the speaker depending on the quaility of the splice.14 or 16 guage speaker wire. 10 or 12 guage if using aftermarket amps depending on wattage. Factory wire is like 18 or 20 guage. Your aftermarket head unit will or should have better overall sound quaility, more power with less distortion then the factory head unit and amps. The first thing I did when I bought my vehicle was stripe the entire mach 460 system out including the amps and sent it all to the dump.
