C-4 Rebuild

trany shops are one of the biggest rip offs, so are insurance companys, so do it your self. I bought a street race kit and paid $220 . it included everything I needed from the red clutches to the bands and o rings and the bushings. If you cant do it yourself then get one thats done already and built for the street or strip.. dont pay 1200 dollars for a simple rebuild.

I was quoted $400 for a complete rebuild. My clutches are almost shot. Instead I opted to go with one of these: http://www.usaplaza.com/scripts/wcom_producttree.asp?StoreID=1078&ProductID=31801

Their is a ebay seller who is a vendor for Performance Automatic who builds these transmissions. You can get your brand new c4 with heavy duty clutches and kevlar bands etc for $735-745 shipped. Much stronger than TCI's. Go to www.fordmuscle.com and click forums and scroll down to their c4 forum and read what others have to say about the TCI and PA (performance automatic) trannys. IMO this is the way to go.

I am guessing that the quote was for the tranny still in the car.

If you carry it in, it's a lot cheaper, although you would be real hard pressed to find a rebuild for $300 anywhere. parts alone will be near that.

I built mine and spent a measley 430 for EVERYTHING brand new, some machine work to the drums and a manual valvebody. And 20 bucks for the video. It will hold 600 hp with a transbrake. If you don't need that, 100 is still way to much I think, even if you don't pull it yourself. Benched should go for around 300-350. I had a freind that has his towed to the shop and rebuilt for 600.
