C-4? to AOD, 4 to 8 swap problem

I am not sure if the car I got this motor from had cruise control or what, but, I am swapping out my 2.3L for twice the displacement and cylinders. I have found great info everywhere as far as what to swap and everything, but I haven't seen anything about swapping the trannies. I am putting the bigger AOD in pplace of the c-4? that was in there. The original tranny has a speed sensor with a clip in speedo cable, whereas this bigger tranny doesn't have a speed sensor, as it is, when I bought it. Is the speed sensor the same from one tranny to the next, or if I am looking at this correctly, it looks like I need to get a different speedo cable and well.... yeah, I am confused.

My other random question of the day. are the flexible hard plastic high pressure fuel lines the same from 4 to 8? I knicked one anyhow, needs replaced... anyone got some spares?

I figured I'd make a post, since I didn't see that anywhere in a FAQ.

sorry if this was covered before.

4 cylinders just came with 4 cylinder AODs

The AOD transmission I got out of the GT car is bigger, and different. My question is, do you have to swap out the speedo cable? I already have to swap out the console shifter, as it has 12D(OD)NRP, and the bigger tranny has 1D(OD)NRP. So, it's short a gear. Plus, there is a difference in linkage. mechanical rod linkage vs. TV cable. right? yeah. so, that's really my question.

ok actually the tranny from your 4 banger is an A4LD not an AOD. It is electronicaly controlled where as your AOD isn't. It uses the throttle valve cable to adjust line pressure. The TV cable is a whole different thing that the shifter linklage. The AOD isn't short a gear it just doesn't have the option of manualy selecting 2nd gear (unless you do the 1-d-1 shuffle which you shouldn't do and is a whole nother discussion). You could probably get the A4LD shifter to work, but you would be better off getting an AOD shifter they go cheap on ebay all of the time.

right, this I know. I am not really concerned about that part, it's the speedocable that is giving me grief. from what I can tell I am not gonna be able to use the cruise control, sicne the AOD is sans VSS. I didn't know what type of tranny was in the car originally with the 4 cyl, thanks for clearing that up. I was guessing c-4, but, I had a "?" next to that because I wasn't sure, thanks.

Right, that is what I meant by, "it's short a gear" I should have said, "short a gear selection?" As far as the 1 drive 1 shuffle like you say, well... never would even attempt that. Fluid pressure inside the tranny is well over 2500 when you drive 25-30 mph locked in first gear. downshifting from say 45-50 mph into 1st would be kinda hazzardous to the tranny seals and human life.

I wouldn't want to try to get the A4LD shifter to work, as swapping drivelines is already too much of a headache, and making some sort of bracket to hold the TV cable linkage would be far too involved, not to mention the fact the gear selector numbers wouldn't line up correctly, and that would be too confusing for valets and unsuspecting borrowers of said automobile. I do have the AOD shifter and TV cable. so, that shouldn't be a problem. I could post some pictures of what I am talking about, with the difference in speedo cable connections. ...but basically, I think I already know what I am gonna have to do here.

But, just one more time, let me ask if maybe someone here knows, or has a picture of theirs...

Where is the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) located on the AOD and do all AOD's have them? This one does not a VSS as I know to them to look. (meaning 2 conductor plug, plus a hairpin clip fastener for the speedo cable, usually fastened to the tranny by a clamp) If the car that this tranny came from did not have cruise control, it wouldn't need a VSS, since the AOD is not electronically controlled (versus a 1994 escort for example, if the VSS is bad or unplugged the car won't shift from 1st gear).

What am I missing here?

again, thanks for identifying the tranny for me.
