C2 Power Steering pump with Saginaw internals?

ANyone seen this pump yet?


This is interesting as it's a bolt-in solution for a Saginaw based PS pump. Anyone use it?
 
I'm all for improving pretty much everything and anything, sometimes I even pay up for products. But having numerous foxes in the famy over the years, none actually lost a power steering pump. I replaced a couple while things were apart, but I didn't "have" to. Rock auto has pumps from $40 to $120. So $400 seems extreme.
 
The Lee Pump CII has an output of 1450 psi and 2.75 gpm however the pump can be upgraded to put out 1500 psi and 3.0 gpm for hydroboost applications. Here is what the stock pump puts on a 1993 Mustang (pulled from the 1993 Mustang Workshop Manual, Section 11-00: Steering System - Service (Testing)

I emailed Lee Pump and asked them if this pump would over pressure the rack in a 1995 Mustang 5.0. I swapped to the SN95 rack in both of my cars years ago so I just wanted to make sure that the higher pressure would not pose a problem for that style of rack.
 
I would think it would be fine considering Ford put hydroboost on the rack in 1996 on the V8's. I've never seen any spec regarding pressure ratings on the various racks.

I guess one could look up the output pressure of a 96-04 power steering pump to see what those are rated at.

I have hydroboost, but I never upped my pressure. I did buy a pressure relife valve for the C2 pump that will output 1600psi, but I always thought that might be a tough to high so it sits on my bench.



Really the problem i'm trying to solve is the annoying whine. mine isn't that bad, but if this solves it forever it may be worth it IMHO

Another option may be an electric PS pump from a Volvo. Cheap at junk yards, super easy install....and one less accessory for the belt to run.

Don't know what the specs are as far as running the hydro boost but if the stock pump runs it, then I would think it would
(I run mine at the 70% default, but there's videos out there to set up a controller to use 100%)

I use volvo EPAS too. Works great ! Only thing I had to do was drill out the pressure port on the pump with a 3/8 drill bit to accept the factory pressure line.
 
I had a couple noisy PS pumps cross my path. Fixed with Dexron transmission fluid and a touch ( literally just a little bit ) of Lucas stop slip. If there aren't any metal flakes, there's still hope.

I thought about it, but rather not go that route. In fact, if i could go back in time i would have convinced myself to not go hydroboost as well. Kinda wish i stuck with the KISS methodology.
 
I emailed Lee Power Steering with the following:

Me: Have a question with regards to the PUMP-CII. I am using a power steering rack from a 1995 Ford Mustang 5.0 (no hydroboost) and wanted to make sure that this pump would not overpressure that rack.

Lee: We can accommodate that. If you place the order online, put "for rack and pinion" in the notes.

Me: Just to clarify a little further this will be installed in a 1993 Mustang with the factory serpentine setup. Will I need to reuse the OEM high pressure hose fitting on the new pump? Hoping this will be a plug and play kind of thing.

Lee: This pump will use your current pressure line.


So with all of that it sounds like they will change the output pressure and volume based on you telling them that the application is for a rack and pinion and you need to also let them know with or without hydroboost. It's nice that is a direct bolt in.
