c4 tranny questions

Looking to pick up a used or remanuafactured transmssion. Not sure where to really start though. What year tranny should I be looking for? What cars carried c4's? Are some better than others. I'm not too concerned if it is a smooth shift or not, as my first step will be to put a shift kit in there.

This tranny is to go in my 68 Coupe with a 1989 351w engine.

71 and up are the ones of choice. They are supported better by the aftermarket for valvebodies and torque converters. 70 is nearly the same, but some use an oddball input shaft that can complicate things. They are in most cars and some trucks with 302/351w engines.
