Today I'm replacing the oil in my transmission... it's very brown. So, I remove the pan, then I remove the filter... and there sitting on the filter is a spring! It's about 1.25" long, and about 1/4" in diameter... What do you think this is?

Then, I'm using a Haynes Ford Transmission overhaul book for instructions, and it says to lower the torque converter bolt to drain the torque converter. I've got a C4 and 302... but I don't see where this drain plug is... the instructions say to remove the torque converter cover plate, but I don't even see that! Can you help me?

Thanks!

<<my daughter wanted to make sure I added that!

Okay, found the drain plug for the torque converter... I didn't realize it was accessible through the flywheel.

But that spring and little stud... where do those go back in?

Is it a 70+ C4? It sounds like what goes under the filter on a 70+. With out it in place it will have low line pressure and fry the clutches.

Okay, I found out all about it. There's a little hole where the stud goes in, with the head up, and then the spring goes in below that... and the filter pushes up against the spring. Easy enough, I just needed some pointers!
