C4???

I put a C4 in my fox. My problem is reverse isnt working. I have a B&M hammer shifter in it, and believe I have it all adjusted cause it moves forwards and I have taken it for a ride. The guy that gave me the trans said it was just freshened before he gave it to me. And it looks to be cause it has new seals and everything. Also he is a respected guy. Any how he said it has a reverse manual valvebody in it. Also I dont have the vacuum port on the trans hooked up to vacuum because it is a manual valve body. Does this need to be hooked up for any other reason than to shift the car if was fully automatic. If any one has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

The vac should not make reverse fail, but I would try it. C4's with regular vbs are very unhappy without vacuum.

Make sure the fluid level is ok. Sounds dumb, but check it several times, engine running, etc.

Make sure the manual lever is adjusted correctly. I am not sure if having a manual vb makes any difference to reverse.

If none of that works, I guess I would pull the vb, and make sure the reverse valve is moving freely in the vb bore.

Next, take the trans out. Could be a damaged seal on a servo or piston, or one of the mainshaft sealing rings.

Got one just like in my yard, have not had time to get to it yet...

Sounds like you have a transbrake valve body. If so you need to engage the transbrake to allow it to go into reverse. This is the way my pro tree brake is.
