CAI and tune, gains really from the tune?

So you don't want to answer the questions, YOUR NUMBERS ARE MEANINGLESS!!!. I will continue to say CAI's are a waste until proven otherwise. I don't care how professional DiabloSport is in your opinion. Unless this is done in a controlled environment then there is too many variables that can affect the numbers. Chassis Dyno's are not as reliable for numbers as engine Dyno's. They can be manipulated.. That is my issue with your numbers...

Your numbers are less meaningful than what I found at the track...

Your initial post showing the numbers...

That is your posts, that leads people to think that the CAI is 25 RWHP over top of your tuned car. That is what I thought I read and others as well.

I am not bench racing, you are. You are the ones arguing dyno numbers not me. I take my car to the track. I have seen what CAI/tuned cars do and I have seen what tuned cars do.

The only way your going to make big numbers with a tune is if you have a heavily modded, supercharged or turbocharged engine. My brother worked with a great tuner of mod engines, Randy Haywood . Randy told me a tune is the LAST mod that should be done on a car. Doing a tune is a waste of gas and money on a stock n/a engine. $400 bucks for a tuner or $165 for a cold air?

YOU KNOW WHAT I DO HAVE DYNO SHEETS WITH BEFORE AND AFTER I INSTALLED MY COLD AIR ON MY CAR!!! I WILL POST WHEN I GET HOME TONIGHT!!! ALSO I DID A TUNE AFTER I DID ALL MY MODS AND ONLY GAINED 17RWHP!!!

Were the Dyno runs done in a controlled environment? If not, I am not interested in the numbers.

Yeah because the track is a completely controlled environment and is the only true measurment The only thing you are interested in is your own
Do you realize that not a single person on here agrees with what you are saying or even remotely believes it to be true?

:Zip2:

OMG I'm done with posting, I forgot dynos are false! HEY GEARS DONT LOWER ET's. ADDING A TURBO DOESNT MAKE YOUR CAR GO FASTER, OH RUNNING YOUR CAR DOWN THE DRAG STRIP IS THE ONLY TRUE WAY TO SHOW POWER!!! YOUR RIGHT I'M SO DUMB!! MY GOD I'M DUMB!!!

BTW the guy that did all the dynos for my car was in 5.0mag more times than you and knows a think or two about a dyno. SO YES THEY WERE DONE IN A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT!

Let's just forget it. The original poster asked it the gains are really from the tune itself or from the CAI + the tune.

It's evident that there are indeed gains from the CAI but the tune also gives it's own gains. You can get just a tune and see nice HP/TQ gains.

To anyone looking into a tuner, it's well worth the $$$.

To anyone looking into getting a CAI, it's also worth the $$$. You need a tune with a CAI so you're going to need a tuner anyway.

+1000

The guy was a long time member so I tried to be nice, but the more he posted, the more I realized there was no reasoning with him. He probably thinks Bush is the best president we've ever had, and can tell you why.

Its been a couple of hours since we had any divine intervention here so let me help out:

Not one of you posted your comments from a controlled environment, therefore I conclude that everything on this board is invalid! I can prove it too...

-When was the last time your keyboard was calibrated? Is it level?
-What was the temperature of your processor when you started the post? After?
-Where you properly aligned at the desk with both feet on the floor?
.......................!@#$%^&*

Give it a rest already

You forgot to ask if the U.S. Americans were educating South Africa or Iraq so that we may become better educated on CAIs?

Honestly, to put into perspective...several on here have stated CAI+tune is higher output than tune alone. 100% true!
On the same token, why waste money on UDPs or charge motion delete plates Oh that's right...1 more shred of power is more than it was without it

I bet those that think that now are regretting their voting prefererance in 2004.

Actually, I was at Hooters for the fights Saturday and some guy was just p*ss drunk and was arguing with my friend over politics, and he was very similar to this guy. Everything he said was right and everything you said was wrong and he could tell you why (but nothing obviously made sense). I have friends that are republicans, but they don't even endorse him. But this drunk guy had the biggest hard on for Bush I'd ever seen. (Oh god, that doesn't sound right.. there's a CT for me lol). But yeah, I bet this guy is just like that.

I agree with you that installing only a tune and CAI will not make the big performance numbers that either a heavily modded, supercharged, turbocharged, or juiced engine makes.
However, I respectfully disagree that installing a tune on an S197 is a waste of $, since it not only noticeably increases power output, but it also eliminates the notoriously annoying drive-by-wire throttle lag that infects the stock tune on these cars. Drive one before and after a tune, and you'll know what I'm referring to. There's a big difference in both the POT and WOT throttle response.
Plus, the tuner is a handy tool that can be used to adjust a multitude of parameters, e.g., rev and speed limits, speedometer reading after a change in the tire size and/or the diff. gear, radiator cooling fans' ON and OFF temperature settings, timing, A/F ratios, and MAF table. And it also helps to troubleshoot problems by reading CEL codes, and performing data logging.

I agree 1000%
