In my 91 notch...has 302 HO out of a Lincoln Mark VII...GT40 heads 1.6 rockers...currently running an E303 cam....will I most likely have clearance issues with an X303 cam? The previous owner says he believes the pistons are already notched but Im not sure.....I know there are better cams out there just wondering about this one

any help would be greatly appreciated! :nice:

put clay on the top of a piston. Turn the motor over by hand. Measure for adequate clearance.

Is this the only way to check? Im having my mechanic install the cam, whichever cam I go with, but will he have to completely reassemble the motor parts he took off with the new cam in to check for clearance and then tear it al back down if the lift is too high?

Thanks :flag:

You can just bolt the head up and torque to 30-50 ft. lbs while using the old headgasket...

And then just set up one intake rocker and one exhaust rocker...

Then just remove the 2 rockers, head, gasket, and then measure how much the clay was depressed after you turned the engine over a couple times...

That fordmuscle article illustrates what to do...

'Zero lash' is when the pushrod has no play between the rocker and the lifter. When you turn the rocker bolt to tighten it, the pushrod will get a little bit harder to turn by hand...when you start feeling resistance, you are at zero lash...
