Cam lube required?

I am ready to install a new cam in my stroker this morning. I open the Comp Cam box and find it does not have any cam lube. This is a hydraulic roller XE274HR cam, do roller cams require the lube like flat tappet cams?

I have the 270 version of the same cam. Everyone I have talked to said to lube it real well. So I did. Please let me know how the 274 works for you; low end torque, mid range and top end. I was going to go with that cam but chose the 270 for cruising and drivability. Have not started the engine up yet but hopefully next month I can finish up the fuel system and let her rip.

i have the 270 and love it

at idle, the car rocks as if it had a HUGH cam

my stall is a little low for getting off the line, but once the rpm get up a little she just hmmmmmmmmmmssssssssssss

No lube or break-in required for the hydraulic roller cams.

No lube necessary on a roller, but DO prelube the oiling system before firing it.

And no 20 minute @ 2000RPM to break the lifters in... one of the benefits of roller cams. I'd still like to err on the side of caution and make sure the cam, lifters, pushrods and rockers are well oiled before startup (see D.Hearne's advice). Soak the lifters overnight in clean motor oil.

while roller cams require no special cam lube, it does require lubrication on the lobes and bearing surfaces. also regarding break in, i have a comp cam retrofit roller cam and they say that while there is no cam break in required, they do recommend running the engine at 1500 rpm for 20 min to make sure everything is well lubed before you let the engine idle.

Yes make sure to lube that thing up with something atleast. My old flat tappet cam had already been broken in, I used Black Moly lube it is good stuff for cams, and it saved my cam from going flat when the oil pump died.
