I have a bone stock 94 gt its an automatic, ummm only mod is an o/r h pipe and exaust this winter along with cam swap im putting on a flowmaster cat back. Wanting to know the largest cam i can put in it, i will be putting nos on it soon not sure how long after the winter or maybe not at all....what are my options on cams? Wanting a loud big lopeing engine

I certainly can understand how cool a car can sound at idle that has a cam with a good bit of duration :D

however

That lope at idle don't necessarily make for a quick ride.

A cam like that and your auto trans could make for a very frustrating experience.

Another thing that often goes along with a big cam like that is it can be a turd down low.

I did something like that years ago with stock heads & intake.

It did lope big time :nice:

It would not even start to pull until 3200 rpm :notnice:

I'd do 373's or 410's before doing a cam :)

If you must do a cam now ... you want to know which heads you are gonna be using for the best results with your cam choice.

Good Luck

Pull 1 plug wire off for small duration. 2 for a real lope.

Seriously. A big cam in a stock motor is useless (even a small cam really), less than useless its detrimental...you have no gears and no stall and no flow on the heads and not even an intake.:bang:

thanks for the advice i plan on 4:10's soon and im building a 351...slow process right now.. as soon as my engine dies... but i want a good sounding cam i know 94 and 95 are sensitive to cams also what would give me a decent sound.. deeper then stock and ok for now..?

No power till 3200rpms.... haha sounds like a 2v 4.6L engine to me haha

I have to echo what MattZ281LE said.

ANY CAM
even
a small cam is most likely gonna cause you to be slower

A cam that will produce the sound you are looking for will drive the pcm nuts and with your auto trans ... it will drive you nuts.

You might find a little lope if you decrease the duty cycle of the isc by closing the bleed screw on the throttle body.

btw ... I would not do it
but
if you wanna try ... make a note of the amount you close the screw
because
that would allow you to easily return to the original setting

Easier still ... like was said above ... pull a plug wire or two :D

..well that sucks i wanted a decent sounding and running stang till my motor puked.... dont wanna dump a lot into this engine trying to but um my other.....:nonono: guess my only option for this winter are 4:10's and the bottle

:flag: You'd get more hp/tq through the rpm range using long tubes. But for an auto like others have said gears, hell advancing the timing to 14* (have to use premium) would get you a little more umph.

1.7rr at most would be all the stock heads will handle, and even then its up in the air. I think you will get more out of the fact they are roller than any addy lift.

Like said several times above waite until you get some heads and match the cam to those heads.

if im putting bottle on i shouldn't advance the timing ...right guys????

my throttle body dosent have a screw its like a stud or something no way of turning it my buddy bent the lever that rests on the screw so it held it open more.....i dont recomend this :nonono: :nono:

There is an allen head screw under the rubber cap by the IAC on the drivers side of the t-body as well.

On the bottle you will want to retard timing...AKA take timing OUT from where you are stock. If you run 14* off the bottle and have no ping for best N/A perf. (many many people do), then for a 125 shot you would want 9-10*. The gen rule is 2* taken out for every 50hp.

ok then i need to retard it 4* because i will be running a 100 shot right.
