Cam Selection Advice

I could use some advice on cam selection using AFR 165 heads and a ported Cobra intake. I'm only going to do this once and I don't want to screw it up. I don't want idle problems but I do want a good lope, excellent low end throttle response and enough lift and duration to take full advantage of the heads and intake. Supercharging may come later. I am a rookie at this but I am an old man so be respectful. Will be adding 30lb injectors as well.

What are your thoughts about a custom tune? :D

I mean .................

you don't want idle issues but ... want an idle with pronounced cam lope
you don't want idle issues but ... but plan on using 30's

It can happen but IMHO ...... a tune might be necessary.

you do want excellent low end
you do want to have a good high end range the heads can provide

This also can happen but again, might need a tune

You can see the dyno pull and hear my combo. Maybe that will give you an idea of close I came to your goals but I can assure you of one thing .......... I could have not done that without the tune.

One thing you got going for you is the fact you got the Cobra pcm
The GT pcm is just not as tolerant of mods like h/c/i :fuss:

The thing I see you want that I don't know how you are gonna do is ..........

get a NA setup to give you all of those things above and then be able to use it to go Forced Induction.

IMHO, I just don't see how that can be done.

i'm running the crane 2030. cam has a noticable idle, but still good street maners, and pulls hard up to about 6250rpm. i made 280rwhp and 320rwtq with everything in my sig except with a stock TB and MAF, peak hp was at only 5200 because it was pegging the stock MAF, new dyno numbers soon to come

You either choose a cam with a torque band in the low, middle or high. You can't have both. It just depends if you want the car to be great for street driving and stoplight to stoplight, you want a lower duration cam.

But if you want it fast at the track, you want it to have a higher duration.

Just depends on what suits you best. Make a choice.
