I have 1994 5.0 motor, putting on AFR Renegade 165 heads, don't know if I should put new pistons in because the hydraulic roller cam is probably going to have .540 lift and roughly 227 and 240 duration at .050( it's going to be a custom grind. Should I just go with the stop pistons in motor with 4 valve reliefs or get new pistons (worried about piston to valve clearance) if you recommend new pistons, what should I get then , can you give me brand and part number would help

The duration and overlap maybe be an issue for clearance on stock pistons, would have to check it. you can cut the relief in stock pistons If need be. Had similar combo years ago with first gen afr 165's, more lift but way less duration on a stock shortblock with no clearance issues, made over 400 only time it was dynoed on an engine dyno.. Most grinds for that combo with the stock releif 302 pistons you will notice are kept around or under 225 at .050 numbers. Best to talk with who evers doing the cam for it. Lift has little to do with clearance, its the timing of the lift in relation to where the piston is.
