Ok, some other guys have recommended a Weiand stealth dual plane intake, those 2 go together pretty well?

My ignorance shines alot when I ask stupid questions, yall just please keep in mind I walked into this car with NO prior car knowledge. I not only want a car that runs good, but I want to know WHY it runs good.

the weiand stealth intake is an excellent choice. in fact i prefer it over the performer rpm intake due to its wider rpm range.

when asking questions about building an engine, there are few stupid questions.

been told carb between 600 and 650 cfm, Edelbrock has been mentioned cause I want the big secondarys so it will moan when I stomp on it.
I have an 8 inch rear with low gears (not sure how low just know its taching a bunch at 70 mph)

car is just for fun, I`ve never had a hot rod and I`m pushing 40, want to make the most I can of the 302 without spending megabucks.

OK, not knowing what torque converter you have, I'll go out on a limb and say not to go over about a 270-280 degree (advertised, not the @.050) duration on a cam. Go with as much lift as the valve springs the Edelbrock heads can handle before binding. Want a bitchin sounding intake/carb combo? If you've got a grand to toss onto the engine, get a 3x2 carb setup (Mustang's Unlimited sells this for about $1350, I bought mine second hand for $1000). It runs on the center carb and the end carbs are the secondaries. Ain't NOTHING else sounds like it at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) Completely streetable too. I've got one on my 331 stroker motor. Ran it for over a year in my 89 Ranger without touchin the carbs. Alos find out for certain what gear ratio is in the 8". Betcha it's still got the 2.79's most came with. Without an overdrive gear, they sound like the engine's over reving at highway speeds. Only a tach will tell you for sure. It will also help to determine what gear ratio is there.

I`m thinking

About maybe installing a tach and some oil pressure and water temp gauges before I do the swap, that way I know they would already be working upon startup without a lot a geuss work. Anybody know what if the sending units for oil and temp will be the same for 6 banger versus V-8. I`ve got idiot light for the oil pressure now and just the factory water temp gauge. Are there 2 different kinds? Like mechanical and electrical?

How bout some recomendations please? Any other gauges I might want? Amp meter maybe?
