Cam specs - what do you think

Hey, any comments on the cam my engine builder made for me?

Specs are as follows

Lift @ Valve
intake 574
exhaust 595

Duration @ .004

Intake 298
Exhaust 310

Duration @ .050

Intake 236
Exhaust 248

This is going in a 427W with AFR 225's, 10.5 comp and 4 48idf webers (which should calm the idle quite a bit) Car will be 75% street driven and 25% OT events.

It's a lot like the cam I have in my sb 427 (see link to 67 below).

I like the cam. It's not real radical. But, it has a nice lope/cam sound.

Yes, but being a 427w (windsor - 351 based) it won't be too tough, I will be using custom headers also which helps a lot.

That is a very nice motor. I don't know who your engine builder is,and hate to second guess him, but that type motor will not like a cam made for a 5.0. Edelbrock grinds cams different for a 302 vs a 351. Stroke, rod length, head flow weight of car, purpose, compression, etc, etc, etc all relate to the cam. Don't spend money for top of the line go fast parts, and get a cam designed by some one w/o extensive experience on large stroker sbf's. The cam is no place to skimp.

Also sounds like a nice healthy cam for a 427 to me, be it small or big block. Good luck with the Webers, I've heard they can be a bitch to tune. But then again that's what everybody says about the six-pack setup I'm running on my 89 331 stroker Ranger They were easy, and sound awesome. I'll bet the Weber's also have a different sound as well.

Yes, the Webers will be a challange. They need to be "tweeked" just about every time the car is driven based on the barometric pressure.

But when they are working, they provide additional power that can be felt in your butt.

nah, not true. Before I made the purchase I spoke to aprox 6 weber owners and they all said, set them and forget them. The issues are really from people not having them set up correctly in the first place and then chasing their tail....I am lucky to have an expert available (works for Redline/Weber) locally who is going to set them up for me (teach me) on the engine dyno.....plus these are idf's which are less problematic then the ida's that were originally used on the cobras etc. Simular looks better design. (for the street)

That is a stout cam for a hyro roller, but the cubes and the Webbers will make ist seem relatively mellow I think. With 225 AFR's why is the cam 12 degrees weighted on the exhaust? I thinkt the intake/exhaust ratio must be near 70%......are you running a 1 3/4" primary header tube to a 2 1/2" exhaust?
