I have Comp 262's and they were pretty much good from the start. For the price though I'd stick with the PI cams. Gives you a good bump without the expense of new cams.

let me tell you, new cams are expensive - and not too many were designed for NPI heads

There are some out there. Comp has the XE262-270H's. Compare to the XE262AH for PI motors. They have jumped up about 125 bucks over the last 2 years. You could get new ones for 500. Now they are north of 600. Way too expensive unless you do the swap yourself.

I don't think he is as worried about the price of the cams so much as the install. 600 bucks is do able. But can he install most cams with a little patience? And are there any guides out there to help him? What about instructions that come with the cams, in plain english or difficult? What tools will he need to rent from the auto parts store to get the job done or will he have to buy something else expensive? He is willing to try...

One thing not mentioned...can he have his cam's or a set of PI cams custom ground and pick up any decent gains at all? If he keeps it miled enough that he can use the rest of the stock internals, shouldn't it be a peice of cake to pull them and then put them back in?

gains from a cam IMO will be limited on NPI heads, lift is limited to .50 and where the gains tend to be with nice cams (5900+) the heads play the biggest roll in limiting flow so you might not be able to see big gains there. Yes big gains over NPI cams, but not a whole lot over PI cams.

Do a search for cam install. You should find a wealth of information.
