camaro ss wants to race!!!!!

A couple things...there is more but you get the idea.


SS Performance & Appearance Package

* Includes 325 horsepower, forced air induction hood, specific SS spoiler, high performance ride and handling package, power steering cooler and low restriction dual outlet exhaust.

The car really didnt gain 15 hp from the Z/28. In fact the SS hood is a shotty design anyways for ram air. Most cars are dynoing very similar dumbers and running similar ET's.

It was his first time there. His best was around a 9.6 @ 78 something. While my times went from 9.22-9.48. He needed some practice. That won't help you because he has the automatic.

You think that's bad? I ran an '03 Cobra the same night.
I was ahead of him for a good while.
My 60ft was 2.248 to his 2.406

He ran a 9.02 @ 85 to my 9.4

thats funny I also ran 13.9 my second time to the track. first time was a pathetic 14.5 if I could have gotten a little better at launching I think I could have gotten stock 13.7's out of it.. Ohh well I will be able to go to the track much more often when I get my 07 next spring.

I know many people loose it on the launch, and it's easy to screw it up with a LS-1 6 speed, I went to the track that day with a guy from work with a 2002 trans am 6 speed and he could not do better than a 14.0 so yeah you can beat a poorly driven one. or if you drive REALLY REALLY good like jackie chan you will beat some average driven ones.

To get as good as jackie is on street tires you need to practice often, learn the skill and go to the track often.. I have a good idea of what I needed to improve to run sub 2.0 60's but sadly my current family situation did not allow me to get to the track enough to practice it.. I went a total of 4 times in 3 years of owning the car

Yikes, you're gonna be in tough. Those SS's run roughly 6-7 tenths faster than the GT's I know of at our track. You better hope he sucks at driving or borrow my car . Race him anyways, you never know what will happen.

The SS do have an advantage over a regular Z28 as far as dragstrip. I ran a few 99+ stangs on the street and killed them but then went to the track and ran 14.0 with cat-back and a shiftkit. The last time at the track I talked with an owner of a 2000 GT vert auto (CAI and exhaust) that ran against in a Test and Tune who ran a 14.1. He was very happy with his time and kinda laughed at my weak 60 ft. Then again having a stall,cam,and 100hp on him gave him more to smile about when I ran a 13.0 on street tires. If I could get the power down it would be alot faster.

I have seen stock LS1 Trans AMs (father and son) autos at my track run 13.5s back to back. I have also seen a totally bone stock but HOOSIER slicked Z28 run a 13.2 and it sounded like a Caddy going down the track.

If his car runs good and you don't hit a good launch I don't think you have enough to get him. Race em.

I just Traded my GT for a 02 Red and SIlver SS Auto...... Man those things are fast......From what I can tell that thing would have taken me even with all my mods.....and its bone stock

Actually regular SS is rated at 325hp. The SLP ones can have 335 or 345 all of which are BS ratings anyways as they have been known since 98 to make more power than what they are rated for.

I have driven both with an A4 and the ss was faster. The SS has more power stock then a Z28. .1 or .2 is more like .4 or .5 given all track times i have seen. I have seen some 13.0 out of stock 6spd SS's and 13.4s out of Z28.

Either way you slice it a car with 20hp is going to be faster. I can't wait to hear the outcome of this race.

Come one dude. I have seen A4 SS's run the same times I did stock and I ran a 13.4 in the heat with my A4. If you really think the SS has that much more hp, you are mistaken. They are within 10 rwhp of each other nothing more.

Yeah you may have seen 13.0's out of an SS, however there have also been 12's from a Z/28(Evan Smith). I have seen stock M6 Z/28's run 13.2-13.3 right along with the SS's so what you have seen is just opinion but not all fact overall.

I have all the bolt on's and he ran12.98 @108 to my 13.02 @102.....my 60ft was 1.75 and his was 2.02......but the good thing was...I out R/T'ed him...... .06 to his .21 and beat him by a car! I was about 2-3 cars ahead of him thru the 1/8th and just past the 1/4 he flew by me! Those things have alot of top end! But the ole mustang auto gear ratio is killer compared to their cars! Race him at an 1/8th mile track!

You sure he was full bolt ons or a *****ty driver? My old Rooamtes 02 WS6 A4 with a lid and cutout ran 12.87@108. A friends Z/28 A4 with a stall, lid and catback runs 12.7's. A full bolt on A4 should still run alot faster than 12.98

One of my best friends has a 2000 Camaro SS with a lid, LS6 intake, long tubes, a y pipe, a catback, and 3.73s. He puts down 331 to the rear wheels and runs 13.1 at 111 consistantly.

A driver who can launch better (he's not bad...but I've seen a lot better) and/or drag radials put him solid into the 12s. His only issue is getting traction off the line.

I have seen bad LS1 drivers run 14.0ish...but I've also seen bad New Edge drivers run 15.0ish. So you're only hope of winning is if he can't drive - AT ALL - and you hit everything perfectly.

But even then...he still might win.

P.S. LS1 F-bodies are very underrated from the factory. Manuals dyno 310 at the wheels stock, +/-.

bottom line is I would give the kid more a chance with a Z28 then an SS provided both are stock. If you think that within 10rwhp isn't much a difference then you are kidding yourself. I can't wait to see the results of this race.
