I think I have a basic understanding of cams (controls how much the valves open as they lobe (rotate) <=== yeah brackets within brackets)....but who wants to give me a run down as far as measurement wise and things of that nature?

It would make a loooooooooog post. Some things to consider in a cam design:

Duration
Installation centerlines
Acceleration rate
Deceleration rate
Lift
Base circle

All of the above interplay with each other and you have to compromise each of them most times for one reason or another.

What he said, my two cents is that you wouldn't want too much of an aggresive cam if you have a blower of some sort, in fact I have heard that your stocks would do if you would go for Forced Induction. Maybe 25-30 horsepower depending on your setup?!
