I am building a 460W with some nitrous (250 or more if I have the $$) for a weekend strip car, and a daily toy. I have everything for the exaust now.... Except mufflers. I need this car to be QUIET! I will have exaust cutouts for when all the power is needed, but I want to have atleast a tad bit of the car be sleeperish on the streets.

Yea yea I know big n littles, DOT slicks, cowl hood, cage, yada yada aint gonna look like a sleeper. I was aiming for people to think im domestic RICE!

I wouldn't mind giving up 25hp for a quiet muffler... I just want something that sounds almost stock @ idle, or near it.

the quieter it is the deeper its going to be, anything that has power is going to make some noise, suprisingly its using the quieter cars with more horsepower that set off car alarms rather than the louder ones with less power. If youve ever heard a quiet car with a lot of power in person it feels like its going to stop your heart. I heard a "quiet car" with an F1 procharger and dartblock 347.

and anyone who has any experiance racing on the street is going to know something is up when you call out a 500hp with something that quiet. If your looking for something quiet with a lot of power, build a turbo car. About as sleeper as it gets.

another trick would be to choke down the tail-pipe size that helps with quieting down an exhaust.

Also there's nothing you can do about cam lope....doesn't matter how quiet it runs....if you can hear ANY exhaust, you can hear the lope...so if you're thinking about a sleeper...that'll give you away to a person who's paying close enough attention to the details.

Yep. There's an 8 second turbo Saleen from around me that sounds like an e-cam 302.

Yeah...you can hide the exhaust noise and the lope since you can run a small cam.....but you can't really hide 700hp worth of turbo spool and the blow off valve you'll need

I have a buddy who's car is just like this....pretty quiet until it starts spooling up....then it's like driving next to a Peterbuilt (except of course you don't really drive next to it, you sort of watch it drive away from you really quicky...lol)

Actually, it will be a turbo car. Next season I will have the combo running with the nitrous, and the season after I hope to have twin turbos, pushing 950 to the wheels w/ the spray also.

I just want to be able to say it's a bolt on 302 with a cam.... And have someone believe me (yea I know most hardcore gear heads will know something is up)

*maaaybe* if you could manage it with two small turbos....but they're still going to spool. Even if you somehow got a magical blow off that was wisper silent.......i don't have a shot in hell of hiding the spool on my T3 in my Merkur, and that's bone stock 170hp or so.....think about the spool/boost levels that 700+hp takes....you're talking about a shreeking demonic hell of a turbo whistle....there's no hiding that from anyone who knows what turbo is

700?? You might wanna almost double that haha.

Here's the car. There's a lot of other cars that you can hear in the video that seem like they're the saleen at first, but it's not. Trust me, it's quiet haha. When he says it's a street car and driven all the time, he's not kidding. We see it almost every weekend on normal wheels and tires. If it wasn't for the intercooler in the back seat, and 8second on the license plate, you would never know. Until the turbo spools that is. I've only heard the turbo spool once in person, but it sounds like the world is coming to an end.

Have a shop make up a system with 4 mufflers....put electric cutouts on it....when you need to open it up flip the switch and it will sound like a monster with no back pressure.....

i use to have a pickup with a 460 in it and i had dynomax turbo mufflers on it and the thing was so quiet....i hated it and then i ripped them off and put race glasspacks and then the thing was soooo loud...but if your going for the quiet sound id try the turbo mufflers...most chain auto parts stores stock them and there only about $30 each...

I don't know if they make them big enough for you, but the dynomax super-turbos are crazy quiet. They were quieter than stock and made more power than my flowmaster 2-chambers.... don't have the dynos, though.

If your going with a turbo setup you MUST use a straight through muffler design. Flowbastards can make your car sound like stock at idle…but will most likely rob you of some serious h/p (stay away).

What most seem to go with is either Magnaflow's or Dynomax Ultraflows.
