Normally, Ford sticks with wiring coding over the years. It would help to have a Ford Wiring manual for this car. Those books are really worth it when you have a problem or a question. I would look for that color combo online to see what Ford used it for on other cars. Light blue with red tracer was used for almost 20 for the same function, so it’s possible other uses will point you in the right direction. Good luck.

On my 1991 LX the headlight harness has a plug on each side of the car for fog lights. I assume it was the same harness used for the GT.
The wires (2) are also black, brown/yellow.
The plug looks different from yours but perhaps your LX is a different year ?
Here are photos…

Mine is an 89 so that could be what it is. Which end of your harness is it on? Mine is on the firewall end.

Ok not it then. Not on my firewall end. Mine are hanging under the front bumper. Two plugs in total. One on the driver and one on the passenger side.

Ok, I have a 89 GT and looking at the fog light plug, that's not it.
Seems I remember a plug like that but after working on so many I don't know where.
Exact location?

Maybe it’s an HVAC plug????
I noticed this pigtail on eBay. It’s Ford specific and resembles your plug by design, wiring, and internal contacts.
Just a thought….

Ok, this may be it or at least it’s a step closer in identifying the wire itself. I don’t have the EVTM for an 89, but I do have the 88 Mustang book. On page 112, under the 2.3 engine, I see the only BR/Y wire identified, as part of the cooling fan system. 89 may have been different. Having the 89 EVTM would help I’d the connector.

It looks like it has never been plugged in.
Chances are you are worrying about nothing.
It is not unheard of for the factory using the same harness across different trim levels.
I have see LX's with fog lamp harness ends when LX's did not get fog lamps, and so on.
If the car ran fine before you saw that harness end, then just tuck it up out of the way and continue on.

I've been all over my engine compartment and see no plug matching that.
Where exactly is it located?

On Ebay, there is a guy selling a harness for a 89 mustang,a headlight harness and that plug is definitely there,im gonna ask him if he knows where it goes to, its got me curious, lol

I have not seen this plug on any 90 to 93 harnesses Ive checked out so i have a feeling that maaaybe it could be to one of those options 87 to 89s had that didn't come in the other cars? like that array of warning lights in the cluster?

Could be but being that foglights suck a lot of juice they would have had 2 plugs, one for each foglight? i dont think they would have ran 2 foglights off one single plug but they have done weirder things, lol

Cool, The problem with the foglights affected all years, once they are on for several minutes everything starts going haywire cause it overheats the wiring system including the headlight switch.

There is a really good write up on how to REALLY fix this, reason i typed that in all caps is because there are a lot of "Witch doctor" fixes for it but the real fix involves adding a relay and some other things for a permanent fix, i have this fix buried somewhere in my computer and the reason i haven't done it is because i need to replace my dash one of these days and once i do that ill run the new wires needed for the fix plus install the relay.

I just needed to reassure myself. I think @Mcmahst and @91AOD5.0LX are on the right track. Was this originally a 4cy? Im thinkin so.
