Can daughter fit in back seat? ('11/'12)

I have been away from Mustangs for many years, and have kept telling myself "maybe this year", but it hasn't happened. But, when I saw the new 5.0's and 6 speed manuals I was in love like when I first saw the 1993 Cobras (I owned one for almost 9 years).

Things have changed since then, though , having a kid and all. My daughter is now 7 1/2 and I wanted to know if others who have 2011 ponys have any problems fitting their kids in the back seat?

I went and test drove one a few weeks ago (didn't have my daughter with me) and the back seat was absolutely retarded. There is NO room. The backs of the front seats hit the back seat lower cushion. I was blown away. How can anyone sit back there? My thought is have her sit on the passenger side and put the seat all the way forward maybe?

I need some real world experience here from you guys/gals. I will obviously go back with my daughter and let her sit back there and see what happens but I wanted to know what others have experienced.

I test drove one with my wife and two daughters (ages 13 and 10).

I'm 6'2" (216 lbs), my wife if 5'5" (128 lbs) and both my daughters are on the taller side (like their old man). I tend to sit pretty close to the steering wheel, though.

We fit. There wasn't really any "extra" room, but we fit. My daughters stated they felt a bit claustrophobic but that was more because they didn't have their own doors (they've become spoiled by my 4-door BMW).

Probably not the best car to take the family across country in, but everyday driving and trips less than 3 hours should be fine.

While I don't have one yet, I will be ordering a 2012 GT soon.

I'm 6'2" and run w/the seat all the way back.
Your daughter would have to be a double amputee to fit in the back of my 2010 vert.
Get two cars---one for family;one for fun.

My 2 buddies and I ride around all of the time in my 2011.. They say head room is lacking but they dont really complain.. So the ride isnt that bad at all.. My buddies are both 6 foot

I have a 2010 GT coupe and I just had an experience that surprised me. I needed to pick up 3 adults from the airport this past Sunday. My motherinlaw offer her new Impala as she didn't think the Mustang could do the job. I refused as I don't like using other peoples cars. I emptied the trunk and off to the airport I went. I was able to get 3 legal size roller carryon suitcases plus 2 smaller ones in the trunk. I then put the seat backs forward and moved the seats as far forward as they would go. My nephew who is 6ft. and about 165 and his mother who is 5'5" and about the same weight (hope she doesn't see this) easily stepped into the back seats. Once seated I moved the seatbacks back and the seats just up to their knees. I 5'9" 150 and my brotherinlaw 6'2" 185 got in the front and off we went. The other amazing thing is that I could hardly notice any difference and ride or handling with the added weight. This pony is a real workhorse.

Thanks all. I also have a Tundra quad cab and a mini-van so this will be a 3rd vehicle. I just wanted to know when I do need to have her with me in the stang that she will actually fit.

Thanks again for the info. Maybe I will be posting pics soon of my new 11 GT? (fingers crossed)

My 6' 180lb grandson fits fine when my wife rolls her seat about 1/3 of the way forward. He has a snug fit concerning head room if he sits up straight.

Funny this thread should show up, 'cause the only thing my kids (10 and 13) complain about is the louvers that cover the 1/4 windows. We were just talking earlier about this very topic. My wife is more nervous about how much room they have, but it's amazing at how well they fit back there.
Both kids would rather ride the 'Stang to Church or anywhere else, than the more roomy QuadCab Dakota.

Its no secret that the sole purpose of us purchasing these stangs is not to use them as a family car, but its possible =)

I'm 29 now, but when I was a young kid I remember climbing in the back of any number of my dad's stangs including verts. Was it the most comfortable ride? Of course not, but there is a certain attraction and cool factor even as a kid to driving around in a fast, nice mustang. Especially when your dad is ripping donuts, or pulling out onto the road sideways. Some of my greatest childhood memories include mustangs and other of the monster machines my dad built.

In summary, space is something to consider but shouldn't be what you base your decision on. There is so much more to it than leg room =)

Im currently deployed to Afghanistan and am working on buying an 11 or 12 for my return. I have a 3 year old son, and believe me...there will be a car seat in the back.

My 6-y/o daughter & her car seat fit just fine in the back seat. My 8-y/o son fits next to her just fine as well. We don't go on long rides in the stang. It's mostly to school & home and that's about it. But for what it's worth, the kids love riding in it! I'm sure yours will too.

My 9yr old Daughter is on the tall side but fit's just fine in the back seat.She almost never rides back there though as She is my co-pilot

look at this all us guys now married with children but still loving our Mustangs lol gotta love it

I don't know the difference in room between the '05 and the new '11/'12s, but I was a bit concerned about this too. My daughters are 15 and 12 now, and they fit in the back seats just fine. Although my wife and I are both on the vertically challenged side (Im 5'6" and shes right at 5') My kids always say that they are VERY comfortable in the back seats, and it must be true because they almost always fall asleep on long drives. Its true that there is no extra room, but they can sit back there comfortably. My bigger and taller friends complain getting in and out of my car, but once seated with the front seat slid back they are fine. One thing that I would NOT want to do is have to try to get a baby in and out of a car seat all of the time. I have had my friends kids in car seats in my car, and while it can be done, it would be no fun to do all of the time.

Also, if you are going to be using the back seats alot, then get some billet seat release levers now.......those plastic levers won't last long, and they are $40 EACH to replace at the stealership. Also, be careful mounting stuff on windshield suction brackets at the top of the windshield. My SCT Livewire is constantly being knocked off because my kids just pull the lever and the seat back flies forward like an ejection seat and knocks the SCT off the windshield...

I have a 10 year old who fits well. I'm a short guy 5' 8". My wife is only 5' 1". So we don't require much leg room. Don't get me started on shoulder room. Obviously, go to your dealership and try it out.

Ultimately, your wife is suppose to have a minivan.

My '11 GT is our "family" vehicle now as my wife drives a Miata. My 19 & 17 daughters both fit in the back seat of the GT just fine. I'm only 5'7", my wife and daughters are all roughly 5'3" or so. Taller families might not find much room in a Mustang, but it works for us. My girls tell me that my '11 GT feels a little bigger than my '07 GT, but it shouldn't be bigger since it's basically the same chassis/interior.

If we have to have to transport extra people, we borrow my 19 y/o's Taurus or my 17 y/o's 7-passenger Explorer, but I always prefer taking the Mustang if at all possible.
