Can I add traction control to my 99 GT?

Alright, so it's finally winter, and my car isn't happy. Fortunately, there hasn't been any snowy weather yet, but it will soon be here. All I have to drive is my 99' GT, and the only option it doesn't have is all-speed traction control.

While my city usually gets the streets cleared very quickly, there have been several unpleasant driving experiences. One that comes to mind is last year, when we got a terrible storm. All the roads were snow covered and rutted, and keeping my car straight was quite difficult...and scary with the stupid SUV's blasting past 20-30mph faster. The 20 min. drive to classes took nearly twice as long.

So naturally, my question is: Is it possible to retrofit my car with an OEM all-speed traction control system?

Would this probably be expensive/impractical to do (I really don't want to spend > $500)? Can you even have traction control with a manual transmission? Lastly, does the traction control seem to work pretty well in your Stang?

I dont see why you couldn't. It would require the ABS module, Sensors etc... If you had access to a parts car it probally wouldnt be that hard, otherwise I think it would probally exceed your $500ish budget. As for the performance of the ABS/Traction Control, I find it comes in quite handy in certian situations, it has saved my ass a coulpe of times. Its all a matter of personal preferance, some people I have talked to hate others love it. Personally I wont do without it. Had it on my '00 V6 and on my '04 GT. Hope some of this helps.

Why in the world would you want something that most stang owners including myself wish their stang would have never come with? If I could easily take it out I would give it to you free of charge, thats how much I hate it.
I have said this many times before Stangs simply werent made for the snow, thats why the SUV was invented.

Personally, I like having it in case of bad weather. Oh, you can have it with a manual, 'cause mine has it

Traction control blows on the mustang....I can't imagine someone wanting to ADD it

Guys don't forget that this is the only car he has and he isnt adding it for daily stuff, he's adding it because of the snowy conditions, where it actually comes in handy

*Oh, and on the other hand, luckily i have a 99 Gt and NO TRACTION CONTROL

Save your money get a gear with the money. If i were you just drive slow in the snow or buy some 15 rims/tires off a v6 and put them on. It will be a lot easier driving in the snow with the 15s. Well that is what the guys off of here told me.

I knew this would be the general response when asking about traction control. But seriously, I thought you could turn it off/on with a simple switch, so why would it be a problem at all?

My car is getting buried in snow as I type.

Ok, well I guess this settles it. I'll just leave the car as is, without traction control. But when a dumb SUV plows into me for going too slow, I'm blaming it on the guys at Stangnet!

The more I think about it though, there are maybe 10 bad days in a year, so I can survive. Thanks for the replies.

What the he11 would you WANT T/C for?????? I'm with the guy above that said he would gladly give you his for free. I NEVER use mine ... I'm in the habit of turning it off everytime I start my car ... it's useless in the snow too. Be glad you're not missing anything by not having it.

I wouldnt mind adding traction control to my 99 gt 5spd. I know it is useless when racing, but the other day I was going around a corner in the pouring rain and scared the 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' out of myself as I hydroplaned sideways into the other lane, luckily I straightened it out before hitting oncoming traffic. I think it would be usefull for bad weather but I havent found any information on adding it to my car.

it wont help you for what you want it seems. Its not preventative, its reactive. It cuts spark so your car runs like dirt to stop the wheels from spinning. Its not some sort of miracle application that automatically keeps you from spinning out or loosing control. The last thing you want is to have traction control come on and make your car run like its on 4 cylinders while suvs and other cars are blowin by or fast approaching your rear bumper.

I would spend the money on snow tires or something instead...It will be cheaper and you wouldn't have to worry about turning off the damn thing when you are racing
