can i make my own driveshaft loop???????

can i make my own driveshaft loop like just get a metal strap and weld it to the floor boards???? will i be able to pass tech are there any rules? thanks

i seriously doubt that a homemade deal would pass tech. besides, loops are so cheap, why not just buy one. many bolt in, as i recall. it is nice that some allow you to unsurround the DS so you can get it out when you need to.

If it's well fabricated, I don't know why it wouldn't pass tech; however, I'd bolt it in, not weld it in. In any event, the people to ask about legality are the folks that will be performing the tech inspections at the tracks you frequent, not us here in the forum.

I have on several cars bought the cheap bolt together kit, chopped it down, welded it and then made it removable. The problem with fabricating from scratch is the bending of the loop part, the required metal thickness makes it tough. The bolt together type has too much extra metal hanging out, looks like poop and weighs too much, but has a prebent loop. After chopping and fitting it I make brackets or on race cars weld nuts on the topside of the floorpan to bolt it in. Never have had a problem passing NHRA tech.
I guess if you have access to a metal shop you could do it but the cheapie Summit one works cut down for me.

Make your own, paint it real pretty, slap a summit sticker on it...off to the races.

This asssumes you have good metal working / welding skills. If a novice... no. Save your money and buy one.
