Can I paint my starter?

My starter is nice and rusty looking an all the black is chipped off, can I take it off and paint the canister part? I was thinking that I could mask everything else off and just sand and touch up where it is rusty. Any responses will be appreciated, thanks!

don't see why not, i'd probably use high heat paint because of it's location.

yeah engine paint would be good but header paint would be better.
