Can I put a 275/40 17 on a 17X8 rim?

The min recommended rim width is 9 inches. Is it a saftey issue or will they just look balooned out?

You can but it will look a bit weird. Safety issues would be quite minimal. Personally I cant stand a bulging low-profile tire, i like when they fit properly.

its not a really good idea, it'll stick out about 1.5" on each side of the rim or 3" overhang total. But yes, you can physically mount it.

it can also depend on the tire some run larger, some run smaller...

The tire will be a pair of MT ET Street radials. The other problem I am having is that I have not been able to find a 4 lug Cobra R wheel in 17x10

How much power are you going to be running through them? I think that it may cause both of the issues you described. IMO thats going to be a little wide, as compared to a Nitto which run little smaller...just my .02

I have seen them on 8.5" Wide Wheels and they did not look bad at all, not too much bulging.

Its a stock short block 30 over with a cam, GT40 intake, a ton of little bolt ons, and a little blower making about 5-6 psi. The car runs strong but its no animal. Low 12's with a good hook and some abusive shifting. I will probably throw some AFR 165's at it this winter

On an 8" they will bulge, on a 9" they look pretty good. On a 10.5" they start to invert and not look great again.

I run Nitto 274/40/17's on an 8" wheel. M/T ET Street Radials 275/40/17's on a 9".

My thoughts exactly, I think w/the power you have the smaller nitto's will be a better tire, MT's I would not run on a 8 inch wide wheel personally. Are you completely against the nitto 245/45/17 ?

Does anyone have any experience with these? Will a 9 inch rim fit on the front of a lowered car?

I would go with the Nitto 275's since they run a little small and look fine on a 8 inch wheel. I have a cobra r 9 inch wheel up front and should have gone with a 8 inch, I would like to have some more room when turning the wheels....just my .02

I think the 275/40 Mickey Thompson drag radail looks good on an 8" rim. Personally I like the look of the tire hanging over the rim alittle. I don't like the look of a staright edge from rim up to the face of the tire. But this is me, and eveyone has their thoughts on this..

The 275/40/17 Mickey looks good on an 8 or 9 inch rim.. Heck man those tires look good with no rims... They are just mean a-s-s looking tires...

But anyway here is a picture of them on a set of 99 cobra rims ..
