I have never rebuilt a carb but my dad just gave me an Autolite 4100 1.08. The linkage works fine but the choke seems frozen. Is it rebuildable ? I don't see alot of varnish or anything else inside. Just wondering if I should bother.

No, no carb can ever be rebuilt. :D

The choke assembly is held on by 2 screws IIRC. If memory serves, a good cleaning and scrubbing of the spring does wonders, as the choke mechanism likes to get gummed up with crap.

Be VERY CAREFUL taking it apart. Autolite carbs are mostly cast aluminum. The last 2100 we tried to rebuild was so rusted up, corroded and had so many of the internals fused in place, I gave up. Aluminum has a nasty tendency to fuse to other metals. If the jets dont come out, soak them in PB Blaster, no WD40 crap will do..

That does help....maybe I will tackle that this weekend. I have never rebuilt one. I know you said the aluminum fused can make one useless to rebuild...is there anything else I should look at before that would make this carb totally unuseable ? I just don't want to waste the time if the carb is not salvagable.

That is true....might see if I can find an online video to walk me through it. I have also considered letting Pony carbs redo it but that's not as much fun now is it. The only reason I'd use them is they can test it much better than I can.

pony carbs is a really good place to get your carb redone i buy old holley carbs send them to pony and have a cheap selection of carbs ranging from 250cfm too 1000cfm that i could use... the cheapest way to buy carbs lol.
