There are quite a few people that do drive strokers daily. As long as it was assembled correctly with good craftsmanship and and the car has a good tune then everything will be A ok.

Yes you will be able to drive your 342/347 daily. Your main concern is if you can afford to do it or not.

True...A lot of guyz have them. But you dont want to get more cubes just to say you have it, then put together a sloppy combo. If you get one done right, you'll get so addicted to the power, then you'll prolly want more. If the combo is done right, it will be able to hold some more power if you want it. WIth that said, you dont need "top of the line" on all the parts, but you dont want the bottom of the barrel either.

Good Luck

I drove my 331 for about 5 months as a DD and I hated it. I felt that everyday I was just killing my car more and more by sitting in traffic and the short drive. But can it be done, yes. If you look in my sig, my HCI is pretty mild and it's been SCT tuned. If you don't mind the wear and tear on the car, then I guess you can do it. I would just talk to someone like Ed C and get a cam that is suited for your situation. Good luck.

I dont really get that. You pay for a nice powerful motor and all the rest of it. Why not drive it? Drive it into the ground. Drive it and love every minute of it.

No your right..I've got all that money into it and I should drive it, but my commute to work was 5 minutes each way. So it was start, drive 5 minutes to work, turn it off. Start it drive 5 minutes to the gym turn it off. Start drive 2 blocks home and shut it off. Not mention as a daily driver, I had to drive it all weather conditions and the one time in the rain I hit a pothole that I couldn't see and it blew my front and rear pass. side tires. It was just unnecessary wear and tear. Now I only drive in nice weather, for long periods of time, and I beat the balls off it...in a good way.

On the highway ... its gonna get milage about like a 302.

Around town ... it is gonna suck gas more ... due to your tendency to over work your right foot

When you move up to 30's and larger ... you find out real quick ...

They are thirsty little buggers

I would think that the driveablility of your combo would come from your choice of HCI/tune and not that it was stroked. If you stay with a mild combo/compression ratio etc it should be close to driving a mild 302, until you jump on it. Then the fun begins!! From reading in the Mustang magazines, a pretty good stroker combo can be had for not much more money than just rebuilding the 302 with a stock crankshaft and stock type pistons. It's really a good time to up the cubes IMHO. Good luck with your decision(s)!!

Right Here is where we all get a big dose of reality

From reading in the Mustang magazines, a pretty good stroker combo can be had for not much more money than just rebuilding the 302 with a stock crankshaft and stock type pistons.

This holds true for the shortblock only
IF
you don't go for the high dollar cranks, rods, and the like

Where the money can really get outta hand is when you buy supporting parts to work efficiently with a 350 cubic inch motor as all 302 parts have now become too small

You most likely will not be able to get by with no tune which will send the price on up there as well

Just no way around it

When you move away from the OEM, gt 40 kinda combos

You can make some serious power
BUT
You gotta pay serious $$$

I know someone who has one in an '89 Ranger. well USED to. They took it out but it was fun to go cruising. It would overheat if it sat for too long, and in the summer it was worse.

Better wp and rad should fix the over heat thing

Heck Fire ......................

After putting on h/c/i I pushed my stock pump/rad beyond their limits.

Me living in Texas don't help keep things cool either

Yeah same here. I needed up upgrade those too after my h/c/i.

Cant blame the stroker for overheating its the person setting it up's fault.

blah.

theres a lot to consider. in order to do this the right way it is going to cost way more than i can afford right now. i also dont want my car to sit the whole summer while i save up.

i think what i am going to do is reuse stock crank and rods, have the block bored .030, and buy a DSS rebuild kit with 306 pistons, rings, bearings, etc for $500. then pay whatever it cost to have the motor built. will be a lot cheaper than buying an entire rotating assembly and not to mention all the other costs.
