can you disconnect odometer??

is there any way to disconnect a 2000 v6 mustang odometer? where would i take it ? how much will it cost me? are there any risks besides the legal stuff?

It's illegal. But the only way you can do it is by disconnecting the speedo cable from the tranny.

on a 97, you can just unplug it from the back..although im pretty sure it logs a code in your computer that ford could look up

yeah then your car would be worth ummm $3.25!!! Wooot! unless you sold it through a private sale... and they would never be the wiser...

yeah, i saw an older, like 87' firebird in town for sale, and it had one of those 'new fangled' digital gauges, (like an S2000), so we didnt know the mileage,and not only that, it was a crappy hookup and the speedometer wasnt working (he said it was an easy fix... but i dunno, lol) thise is when we were looking for a car for my friend, who currently has an 87 POS I4 white/white primer, (thank god it matches) stang hatchback... hes still searching for a new car, lol

can I take it to a ford dealer here in Florida and ask them to do it. (under the table)

my problem

I have my step dad's stang for the next month and I don't want to put too many miles on it. I want to know if there is any way I can disconnect the odometer and then re-connect it before I give it back to him. can you please help? I live in Fort Lauderdale Florida

if you disconnect the cable it will trigger the check engine light and set off a code in the computer, you'll need a computer to reset the computer and remove the code.
