has anyone tried/done this... i really want to, but none of the powdercoating companies know if the stock plastic will withstand the high temp. to cure the coating.
can you powder coat stock valve covers and pi intake?

Somebody on this site painted theirs a while back (about 4-5 months ago) and they didn't look too bad. A few of us were concerned about how the engine heat was going to affect the paint, but unfortunately, he never got back to us to let us know how it held up.

Here is a pic of a powder coated ls1 intake which is a plastic/composit intake. I think the process is different though since you couldn't put a charge through the plastic stuff, so it may be difficult to find a shop that can do it.
so the ls1 intake and the pi intake are different material?....cuz i thought they were made from the same material?
so should i just go ahead and paint the valve covers and intake with some engine enamel and a high performance wheel clear coat? or any other suggestions?

ok...now i'm confused...
don't seem fair that the ls1 can be powdercoated but the pi cannot!!!
well i'll just wait on some more advice before i make what could be a drastic decision...if all else fails i guess i'll just try and paint....but you just can't beat powder

That is what I am saying, If the ls1 intake can be powdercoated I beleive a pi one could be too.

The intake is nylon based, i still don't see how someone can powdercoat plastic and not have it melt during the cure process. Even durring the heatup of nylon it's melts fast (and it stinks really bad)

just called them...and after they let me explain to them what i was looking to get done....
1st they said they don't coat plastic...??? so i guess false advertisement?
2nd they said they don't do any work for the general public, they are a sub contracting company.

Every shop i've ever talked to (even the one i worked in) said they don't/won't/can't coat plastic.

well i guess that would settle it then...so i move on to the painting option...can anyone throw any suggestions to what paints to use and maybe to what grit sand paper to smooth it down with before i prime?
ok final word on powder coating plastic...it isn't possible, to cure the coating requires 400*+ ....what they are saying is PLASTIC powdercoating...this is a specific type of powdercoating that has plastic integrated into it and creates a plastic finish on the certain object (being a metal or something that can withstand the high temp.). so i guess i'll give up on that idea. but i would like to paint them still so any advice for painting would be very helpful.
