cant get stang out of gear

i put a new clutch cable from advanced auto , out of a 90 gt stang.. in my 86 351w t-5 stang.... first time driving it down the street i did a nice big first and second gear burnout and couldnt get it out of second gear... i shut the car off and it came out of gear..... then started car back up in nutral......and now i have trouble getting it in and out of gear. whats the deal?

im not a maual tranny guru but im guessing the cable needs adjusting as its probably not letting go enough to disengage the clutch. just a guess.
