Cant get stock shifter off?

Im replacing it on my 91 Gt with a Pro. 50 shifter, I already took off the 4 bolts holding the stock shifter but it feels like its glued on or something because it just wont come off. Are there any more bolts I could have missed?

yea, if you have the 4 bolts off of the trans, just grip and rip. Just a factory seal (rtv?) use rtv to seal it. seems to work good for me. P.S. while you got the shifter off, you might as well change the trans fluid.

I had to do the same thing. My shifter was prolly on the car since 1988 when I tried to take it off, wasnt very easy.

take a wood block and a hammer, the ulitmate persuasion tool. Give the base of the shifter a few good knocks, it will come off.

There are 4 bolts that connect it to the transmission.

I have changed a fewer shifters and the easiest way for me was to just to keep the handle on the shifter and use it to grab and rip upwards. Always worked for me

My bad, my TTC has six bolts. You're right. Ditto on the "yank the handle" method, at least on the stock shifter. Just be carefull not to lose the bushing inside.

I just used a long screwdriver, and tried to pry on it with as much torque as possible. It was quite stubborn, but it did come off eventually. Have fun with the new shifter, its a good one.
