I finally gave up on it becuase I didnt really have any ideas on where to go with it. First off they semi-cleared up the bad bad miss by re routing some vaccum lines, and resetting timing to 10. They couldnt fix it all the way and they told me enxt step was to pay 350 for the lower gaskets to be redone incase they were leaking. I still have several problems though including......when warm it stall right after startup, it SMOKEs which he told me he "thinks" is fuel but he isnt sure. and the coolant leak I thought I fixed....well today I picked it up and sure enough more was missing so I guess I didnt seal it right or I was off altogether. There is a puddle back under the elbow where I had resealed the coolant line crack.
My biggest problem with this is besides the smoking that when I bought the car all the way untill I dropped it off on Monday the oil pressure guage read right on the "L" and today when I picked it up it is sitting on the "R" .....It has never ever moved before and now it moved 3 letters? I called him about it and they said it is electrical and that they didnt mess with that.

ANY THOUGHTS???? (last time you guys killed me )

I agree man. With all the problems you have been having i dont know how you stay sane.

About your problems, i cant really add much, except the stock gauges dont mean much to me. If i press on the plastic cover over the gauges, the oil pressure gauge will increase a couple letters LOL, not to accurate.

I would sell it but if anyone did a thourough search on it they would notice the problems and if they drive it they will notice the slight miss and they stall on warm starts Plus with all the work and money and time I have put in it I would really lvoe to have a summer with her running great to look back on. I lvoe mustangs and if I sold it I would get another but I dont think I would eb able to sell it for any decent money with all the issues. I wish I had more than $1.43 in the bank so I could fix everything and be done with it.

ALSO my A/F gauge reads a little rich but not that much, and the smoke is when I accelerate (which makes the a/f guage jump to rich) and it smells gasy but isnt black. I believe my FP is around 45. Gonna tune it down some tomrow. There isnt alot of smoke but it is definely mabye 2 feet out from the car before it starts to disolve beyond site. The smoke is what scares me the most. When I did the HCI I still had INTACT hatching in the cylinder walls and that was mabye 1500 miles ago. I dont even wanna let the thought of rings or HeadGaskets enter my head....

So what did the shop actually fix? If you are having all these problems why don't you confront the shop and tell them to fix it or get your money back.

They were supposed to fix the miss, and they did to some degree.....They told me they could try the lower intake gasket to see if that helps but I wanted it back before they dropped another 350 I didnt have into for something I coudl do myself. I told them I had fixed the coolant leak so they didnt mess with that, and they said the warm start problem was probably related to the miss. The guage issue they said wasnt related to them when I called. They said they didnt notice any smoke when I asked them today but I see it and so do 4 of my friends so mabye they didnt look close enough I am putting in new plugs tomrow since the ones I have are somehwat fouled from runnign rich, and I am goign to tune downt he FP and try and search this coolant leak down whenever I get a day off work.....any other ideas?

why dont YOU try the lower intake gasket for like $20 instead of them for like $350....
...and im curious as to how your car behaves with this "miss"

well the miss is.......driving at a constant speed in any gear (most noticbly 4th and 5th) and they car will "drop a cylinder" and it will shudder (in a way that amkes your head move to the front of the car like you tapped the brakes). It will keep doing this untill you acclerate past like 2500. Even then sometimes it still does.

I would do the gaskets (probably will) but I have to wait till payday for the gaskets, and I am scared that last time when I did this is when more problems started and I dont wanna botch it again (IF I did the first time)...plus I need a day off from work and helping my pops with his deck.

Dude I hate to say this but this is a HG problem. I replaced both HG 2 weeks ago and took it for a spin w/o a proper tune and 3 pulls later I noticed a sound (like a miss) and I noticed my chit starting to overheat and then the white F-14 contrails behind me. Your gaskets are prob not sealed tight. Your oil sender is right beside your oil filter and its not reliable at all. If you want accurate readings you need aftermarket stuff (tach, oil, temp, etc). The only ones that works is the fuel gauge and the voltmeter.

They want $350 to change friggin intake gaskets. I think they are trying to rip you off, and if they could not fix the problem thoroughly why did they even charge you.

Well they charged me to find the problem, and try and fix it, but when they said 350 to fix a possible reason I said no and just paid the diagnosis. There are more problems witht his car than I could afford to have them fix.

9550SC.....dont say that She doesnt overheat at all, and the coolant isnt disappearing into the cyl's (as far as I know) becuase I can see where it is leaking.I checked the oil and it was fine and the coolant has no "swirls". I guess it could be but I would rather burn out my eyes than pull the heads off right now. I know the oil isnt accurate but why would it change its postion after a year of engine work all if a sudden drop off in half?

They said 4 and a half hours labor which was almost 300 plus shop fees and tax and gaskets......

Sounds like a classic example of a shop not being able to fix it and not wanting to deal with it anymore.

Have you checked for any codes, or pulled any plugs, or what else have you done to troubleshoot it?

The car does the time but its a little worse when its cold. I have pulled plugs and they look decent mabye a little rich but not too bad. I am putting new ones in today. I am also gonan recheck FP and put it at 42 w/o vaccum. The check engine light doesnt come on so I dont think they pulled the codes. I reset them 2 weeks ago to see what came up and they stop coming on.

Ok, nm then. My car did the same thing you describe but only when hot.....when the car warmed up heat was saturating the tfi module. Took me 3 modules to find one that acutally worked.

i would pull the tfi module, take it and have it checked. I would also replace the pickup in the dist. this could def. cause a miss. I would also pull the coil and have them check it. You also need to turn that fuel pressure down if that is 45 at idle no vacuum, i would say around 40-42, and it that is with vacuum that is way too high

TPS

Just a thought but did you check your Throttle position sensor (TPS)? It controls part & wot. It's like $25 bucks. I had an 88 GT (Many, many years ago) that felt like a "miss" and ended up being a TPS sensor. Hope it works out for you. Let us know how you make out.
