Car banged up....now?

my car got a little banged up. I just started to use it again, and I have two wierd problems.

One, is that there is a slight squeek coming from the rear corner where It got hit. Ive narrowed it down that its the brakes, because when I apply them, there is no squeeks (the noise is light a high blip about once a revolution or two). This is a 95 cobra setup, with fairly new pads and all, so what could be bent that isnt inhiibiting the function, but is making noise? And the rotor looks perfect too.

And too, my drivers side door wont lock now. It feels like theres resistance holding the little button up. This wasnt so the night of the accident. Im gonna check it out later when I get home from practice, but what do you think it could be. And I have power door locks too, they just dont work.

So what do you think of these things?

Probably the heat shield scraping on the rotor.

Sounds like the door lock actuator is seized.
 
If I remember correctly you need to pull the door panel off, then pull the actuator out from the braket ( not sure on the tools for that, last I remember it just poped out). the rod from the actuator "bends" into the door lock mechanism. Just twist it out of the mechanism and you will be good. Pretty simple. I know someone will attack... I mean correct me on some of the procedure though. I did my door locks 6 months ago and don't remember every little nut and bolt. There are threads on here for aftermarket actuatoes that cost less than $5 and work ten times better than stock ones. A few mods and it will work perfect.

your squeaking may also be whatever bearings are back there, im not familiar with rear disc setups but if you apply the brakes its taking pressure off of the bearings, just a suggestion

No problem man, I did it and I it was the first time I heard my door locks go *KERPLUNK*. sounded good. I also had some wiring issues too. But fixed them all.
Something that isn't mentioned in that tech article that I would recommend is to oil the locking mechanisms. I oiled mine after I did the initial trial run and they sounded much better and moved a lot easier.

I thought about that toom there is a bearing at the end of the axle tube like always.

Also....the sound doesnt happen when Im moving in reverse. What could that be about?
 
Well I want to count out the exterior things before I mess with the axle. When I apply the brakes, it stops. If I pull on the parking brake a bit while driving, it stops. Could the rotor be bent?

And I really dont think (and hope), that the axle got bent. I cant see the axles bending with the small force there was in the impact. The lip of the wheel snapped off in a few places. So I would think that the wheel took the impact and broke. I cant see a solid steel bar getting bent with no leverage on it instead of the cast aluminum wheel. You know what I mean? Anyways, I hope thats not it.
 
a friend of mine wuth a 69 nova lost control in the rain while taking a turn from a light. Hit the curb and bent the axle. As well as tearing up the rim. Anything can happen. caliper could also be locked up.
 
Axle

If your car took a hit on the wheel strong enough to break part of the wheel, chances are very likely you have a bent axle. Stock axles are known to bend/break off in a big impact...also check the wheel itself.
 
oh im using a different wheel now. But let me ask you guys this, should the axle be bent, what would cause the squeeking sound? There is the same amount of play in the axle as there always was, and there is no oil leaking from the axle tube (bent axle would tear up the seal I assume). And plus, wouldnt there be a terrible vibration assosiated with a bent axle?

Another thing that leads me away from that, is that the sound is not muffled whatsoever like it would have been if it was something on the inside of the rear, plus if I close the pass. side window, I can barely hear it.

And it doesnt make the sound in reverse, but I dont know what that means. I think the rotor may be warped, or the caliper may be damaged, since there is not alot of caliper clearance with the setup im running. Anyways, Im gonna put the rear up on jack stands and have my father put the the car in gear and give it a good look over as its turning. If I cant really tell, Ill pop the caliper off and see if it still makes the noise.

you are correct that when you bend an axle you will feel it. Especially at high speeds. We don't have the luxury of being where you are and seeing what you see. But you are correct.

When your father gets the tires rolling you should be able to see that one tire will "wobble" if the axle is bent. I think there is something is wrong with the caliper. if you locked them up then the heat from that could warp it. Also, remember, that all brakes squeak. Just some are louder thatn others. I am not sure if the squeak you are hearing is anything but just the brakes. ALso check to see if the caliperis locked up. My friends did and it made a horrible noise. I took it for a spin and when got bad I touched the rotor and it was "HOT" from the caliper riding on it where as the other side was fine.
